Ride-by: A Charming Italian City House. September 20, 2010 33 comments. A house nestled somewhere in the rustic Italian countryside? I told you it was situated near a busy intersection. Don't let that disappoint you though. The ample landscaping envelopes the house on all sides, yielding just the right balance between privacy and views of the Atlanta skyline. Behind the shorter cypress trees and below the row of transomed windows lies a hidden patio. This photo also highlights the excellent metal railing...

Bench Seating In The Kitchen. June 23, 2010 29 comments. Pull up a seat, stay awhile. No, scratch that. Pull up a bench. I submit that the age-old saying needs an update to reflect the reinvention of kitchen seating as we know it. I do tend to have an affinity for form over function in many design elements so this may just be another example of that. I'm curious if anyone has sat on a bench at an island and can tell me what they thought of it. Did you share the bench? In this photo, South of Market.

February 17, 2010 22 comments. Must Visit. Charlotte. That is the thought that has been circling my mind since discovering the Charlotte-based residential architecture firm Pursley Architecture. It's not every day that an architect's portfolio incites so much enthusiasm in me, but the work of Ken Pursley's firm is simply amazing. All of it. We'll kickoff an abbreviated tour of the firm's portfolio with a set of distinct bathroom designs. The creativity really shines through there. The signature Dutch lin...

The Urns Of Washington DC. November 7, 2010 24 comments. A couple months back this house in Washington DC. Blogs, I knew I'd have plenty to enjoy while there. Another house featuring urn finials on the iron railing. The urn design is similar but different from the urns at the first house. Urns were decorated across the top of this house. I thought it was a unique location for them. Another finial urn on an iron railing. This one is a bit taller and skinnier than the others. The "neck" at the top ...The f...

As early as 1792, the Ridgway brothers produced quality earthenwares in Shelton, Staffordshire, England. Ridgway factories produced almost every conceivable kind of pottery. One of the branches produced a line called Coaching Days and Coaching Ways. I started my collection of the pottery when I inherited a piece from my grandmother. I now have an extensive col...

A sampling of our majolica offerings. What exactly is Majolica? Majolica has its roots in the 16. Century, but what we carry is a Victorian adaption and an anglicized version of Italian pottery. Shown first at The Great Exhibition in London in 1851, the English majolica was all the rage until the turn of the 1900s...
