peripatetic: Dyrhólaey
http://peripatetic-wigwam.blogspot.com/2013/12/dyrholaey.html
Having a look around. Saturday, December 28, 2013. There is a peninsula with a natural arch on the southern coast of Iceland called Dyrhólaey. The name translates as door (dyr) hole (hóla) island (ey). (I read that it used to be an island.) Dyrhólaey is a popular spot to visit and take pictures. If you look at the photo below closely, you can see the tiny sightseers on top. Here is the view from the top of the arch itself, looking back at the point where we stood to take the photo above:.

Having a look around. Tuesday, May 17, 2011. Morocco, part 5: Aït Benhaddou. Take me to the kasbah." Who said that? Seems like a familiar movie phrase. Made us want to go to the well preserved and much filmed kasbah in Aït Benhaddou. You may have seen it in the films "Lawrence of Arabia" or "Gladiator.". Here's a closeup of one section with plenty of greenery. We stayed in a hotel just across the river, visible in this photo. (The kasbah is in the foreground, and the hotel is in the distance.). Ouarzazat...
peripatetic: Wintry Golden Circle
http://peripatetic-wigwam.blogspot.com/2013/12/wintry-golden-circle.html
Having a look around. Sunday, December 29, 2013. One of the most popular sightseeing tours in Iceland is called the Golden Circle. This tour encompasses three main sights: Gullfoss, Geysir, and Þingvellir, which are all within 45 minutes of the capital, Reykjavik. We visited all three last year around this time. I read that the photo on the Echo and the Bunnymen. Is of Gullfoss. Cool. Here it is from another angle. Historically, Þingvellir is the place where the world's first parliament met. Over a t...

Having a look around. Wednesday, October 3, 2012. A few weeks ago we decided to climb Mt. Esja, which we see every day from our window. We were lucky to be out there on a beautiful day, just a couple days before snow appeared atop the mountain! The shot above was taken partway up the path. Our car is parked down by the road, which is that squiggly line near the water. The next photo was taken a bit higher up, looking down. Here you can see how steep and rocky the upper part of the mountain is.

Having a look around. Friday, August 31, 2012. There is lots of street art in Reykjavík. Some is evident in the form of murals. There is also graffiti. And interesting social commentary. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. The other day I walked over to the main branch of the Reykjavík City Library (Borgarbókasafn Reykjavíkur). There were lots, perhaps thousands, of English-language books, along with those in other languages. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Velkomin til Íslands (Welcome to Iceland). Velkomin til Íslands ...

Dan & Duffy's Blog: Um al-Rasas Revisited
http://danandduffy.blogspot.com/2009/02/um-al-rasas-revisited.html
Dan and Duffys Blog. Saturday, February 21, 2009. Um Al-Rasas was among the first sites in Jordan we visited because it was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. We left wondering why it was listed since at that time the. A terrific Tourist Police officer gave us a tour and at one point, he dug eight inches into the dirt and showed us a mosaic floor that has not yet been excavated but was still brilliantly yellow and red (and 1800 years old). My blog is here: Living Life Frame by Frame. Subscribe to: P...

Peripatetic - the Alaska Wanderer. Amy Tan once said "We write to educate ourselves, not others." I’ve worked as an industry environmentalist for nearly 20 years, and that work has taken me places I’d never have seen otherwise. A freelancer as of 2006, I’ve been on a path of re-education, seeking innovators to inspire new approaches to the work I’ve done. This blog’s goal? To let you ride shot-gun on a journey that wanders from the mundane to the fascinating, and spread the ideas across the human web.

Having a look around. Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Fireworks in the land of fire and ice. Americans are no strangers to spectacular fireworks. We usually go all out on the 4th of July with multicolored explosions in all kinds of shapes and shooting arcs, sometimes in time to an accompanying Sousa march. The site of the Reagan-Gorbachev summit.) The revelers take a break, though, around 10:30 on New Year's Eve, and there is a lull in the visible celebration in the sky. Why? Interestingly, the source of all...
