Rick's Ventura: December 2014
http://ricksventura.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Pictures of Ventura Churches. Pictures of Ventura Churches. And as I drove around Ventura, I'd see other churches, or what I assumed to be churches, but I didn't always see anyone near them. This one on Main Street always looks on the verge of being abandoned, for instance, though I do see a congregation. It appears as though it might have been pretty at some point. Years ago, I was visiting Budapest, Hungary, and walked through the Hilton Hotel. Surprisingly, at least to me...

Rick's Ventura: April 2015
http://ricksventura.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Tatiana's Coffee and Tea, Ventura. Tatiana's Coffee and Tea. 2470 E. Main Street. My son came home a few weeks ago talking about a coffee house that he and his friends put up a poster for a robotics competition, and he was saying how nice they were. He described the location, and I knew he was talking about Tatiana's Coffee and Tea. And he said he wanted to go back because they were so nice. The empanada was a great choice. Prepared by Chef Galo of the late Cafe Bariloche.

Rick's Ventura: February 2015
http://ricksventura.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Jimmy's Slice Pizza, Ventura. 586 E Main Street. Walking home from a recent doctor's appointment, I was thinking "Sandwich, Sandwich" over and over, and looking at all the restaurants to see if someone served a sandwich. Looking at the doorway of Jimmy's Slice, I saw this sign. Half sandwich, salad, drink and cookie? The perfect lunch items. And all for $6.99? This time, though, the price was right and I was on foot. And went to a table over by the window. I had a Caesar salad...

Rick's Ventura: January 2015
http://ricksventura.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 31, 2015. WPA Era Post Offices Ventura and Oxnard. WPA Era Post Offices. 675 E Santa Clara St. 1961 N. C St. When I started this blog, this is really the stuff that I wanted to put into it. One of my favorite examples I discovered inside the Hoover Dam when the family was on a 'Dam Trip' a few years back (my kids loved that part of the trip-"Can we go to the dam gift shop? I want some dam souviners" Look at the dam clock," What's the dam tempature? From inside the Dam. I found a website.

Rick's Ventura: Taqueria Vallarta, Ventura
http://ricksventura.blogspot.com/2015/03/taqueria-vallarta-ventura.html
Monday, March 23, 2015. Taqueria Vallarta, Ventura. 278 E Main Street. Ventura, CA 93001. Most of the places in the downtown area of Main Street are expensive, and not that expensive is bad-it's just that I can't always afford it. Sometimes I want to eat fast, cheap and not in a chain. There's a Subway on Main, but who wants to eat there? But I wasn't there for juice. I had a ceviche tostada and an two asada tacos, along with a small Dr. Pepper. It came out to just under $9. Not worth a special trip, but...

Rick's Ventura: The Red Pepper, Koreatown
http://ricksventura.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-red-pepper-koreatown.html
Saturday, June 28, 2014. The Red Pepper, Koreatown. The Red Pepper Korean Restaurant. Los Angeles, CA 90010. On a recent trip to Koreatown, on Wilshire by the old Bullocks-Wilshire building, I decided to be adventurous and try someplace different to eat. Having already paid for parking, and being in a hurry to get back to Ventura, I opted for the Red Pepper, which was across the street from where I was standing. Which was both in my price range and had ingredients that looked somewhat familiar. It starte...

Rick's Ventura: Cordello's Pizza, Ventura
http://ricksventura.blogspot.com/2015/03/cordellos-pizza-ventura.html
Monday, March 30, 2015. Cordello's Pizza, Ventura. 1700 E. Thompson Blvd, #E. Ventura, CA 93001. Every neighborhood I've ever lived in has had a neighborhood pizza joint, one of those places that specialize in take-out and may or may not have a few tables. They serve sandwiches, pasta and some sort of anti-pasto, and generally aren't too expensive. The best pizzas in town are probably those served at Toppers. One thing to note-Cordello's is located in a sketchy looking stripmall. It's kind of like th...

Rick's Ventura: November 2014
http://ricksventura.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 29, 2014. Las Delicias, Ventura. 2611 E. Thompson. Like I usually do when I write these things, I check to see if the food place has a website. I didn't find one for the Ventura Las Delicias, but I did find one for the Santa Clarita location. I found the last sentence on the home page to the most telling- Each Las Delicias location is privately owned and operated. Prices and quality may vary depending on location. The food came out, and it was just okay. I thought my daughter's sal...

At the end of eighth grade, my family moved to Downey, and gave me a choice of attending Pious X, St. John Bosco, or Downey High, and I quickly decided it was time to go public, picking Downey.
