Emily is a survivor. An eye that didn’t constrict properly led to an MRI and a diagnosis of one or possibly two Meningioma brain tumors when Emily was 4 years old. Emily’s life and that of her family changed that day. To think Emily’s biggest concerns are now how she will do on her upcoming history exam and not her upcoming MRI speaks volumes for what can be accomplished with targeted treatments for pediatric brain tumors. It is not the hand you are dealt but how you play your hand”.

The Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC) is a network of 15 of the nation’s leading hospitals with the common goal of better understanding pediatric brain tumor development, leading to personalized strategies and ultimately a cure of the devastating disease. As the goal is to find a cure for aggressive cancer, through the clinical trials the team’s research findings are translated into therapies for physicians to treat these children most in need.

It was the summer of 2010 and our son Connor was almost 5 when our lives turned upside down. A few weeks of subtle balance issues were the only warning before Connor awoke early one morning shaking, vomiting and slipping in and out of consciousness. Connor had emergency brain surgery before noon. In the summer of 2010, George started experiencing morning headaches and nausea. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor, an ependymoma, the size of a small orange, located on the right side of his brain.
