Friday, January 29, 2010. But it is dead). As I alluded to . I was able to take pictures of the stuff under the microscope! Remember that reddish worm we found in our wastewater sludge? Well, apparently it needs a bunch of oxygen to live. Oxygen is readily available in a wastewater tank (the blow bubbles through it! But when you have sludge sitting around, it uses up all the oxygen. So other oxygen-demanding organisms die. Ok, now check this out. I was amazed by this. And take a picture!

Monday, January 25, 2010. I went to Boone today. The weather was poor. Road traction was OK, but visibility was awful. Anywho, I went to the Boone Wastewater Treatment Plant! It's a gorgeous place (seriously! I apologize that I did not take pictures. I meant to. It's nestled in a little valley next to a river, with a lot of trees around it. The mile-long driveway to the place has large oak and maple trees arching over the roadway. This is the activated sludge wastewater! The sludge has settled!

Some poop bugs float, some sink. This means the poop bugs have a different density than water! Interestingly enough, if you agitate the water, some will sink, and others will float!
