Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi

Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi. The life of Bryan. as a Coaster on the south island of New Zealand. Friday, April 20, 2007. On billboards, helicopters and sphagnum moss. Standing at my bus stop in. O make me feel like I was witness to a living breathing organism that. I would watch the city come awake each day. Comings and goings of the Flexcar. Parked at my bus stop for the eco-friend. Ly car sharing folks. I watched delivery trucks dropping off kegs and breads. Schedules to see when the next bus would come.

Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi: NZ Costs!

http://www.portlandvagabond.blogspot.com/2006/09/nz-costs.html

Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi. The life of Bryan. as a Coaster on the south island of New Zealand. Sunday, September 10, 2006. I’m about to go on a bit of a rant. You see I feel like I’m being nickel and dimed to death. Though really I can only be dimed to death here in NZ. See, they’ve done away with the nickel. Who knows how long ago they did away with the penny, but when I arrived a few short months ago NZ was in the process of changing its change. Being new, I’m able to make the shift rather easily.

Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi. The life of Bryan. as a Coaster on the south island of New Zealand. Saturday, October 14, 2006. Can a country have a color scheme? It sounds crazy, but I think that. Might have a color scheme. Either that or they are all hiring the same advertising agency. See, before I arrived here I was told by several folks that coming to the west coast was like stepping back in time several decades. In many ways this has been true. Take the sinks for example. And it lends to the stepping ...

Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi: I'm a resident!

http://www.portlandvagabond.blogspot.com/2006/09/im-resident.html

Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi. The life of Bryan. as a Coaster on the south island of New Zealand. Sunday, September 24, 2006. This is just a quick post to say "I'm a NZ Resident" now. The paperwork was gathered, the documents reviewed, the hoops jumped, the fees paid, the passport stamped, so now it's official. A friend at work says getting residency, rather than just my work permit, is the difference between "I work here" and "I live here.". I'm glad to say that I live here. Now Here's a photo of where:.

Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi: Things I love about NZ

http://www.portlandvagabond.blogspot.com/2006/10/things-i-love-about-nz.html

Portland Vagabond goes Kiwi. The life of Bryan. as a Coaster on the south island of New Zealand. Sunday, October 01, 2006. Things I love about NZ. Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make me happy. Like a good pair of scissors. A phone call from a friend. Snuggling under the covers and going back to sleep as I listen to the sound of rain on my tin roof. First are the things that make NZ feel like a compassionate place, a civilized place. It’s for those expecting kids. Imagine the reduction in r...

An Oregon Family Living in New Zealand. Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Aftershocks and more aftershocks and. Christchurch has never been seen as a big risk for a large earthquake. There is the Alpine Fault which runs along the spine of the South Island and is quite active. There are also the Porters Pass fault and the Hope fault which are a good distance from Christchurch. However, get this:. Are you effing kidding me? How unlucky are we to have been part of an event that hasn't happened for 16,000 years?

An Oregon Family Living in New Zealand. Friday, November 20, 2009. Expect the Unexpected Part II. Thursday, November 19, 2009. Mike's Big Day Out. Under 20" long. They don't even measure fish here in length but rather by the kilogram. I was into consistently 2 kilogram fish. That's big by my standards. As I was by myself, I was of course unable to get photos of any of these beautiful rainbows, but the scenery was not so bad either. Sunday, November 15, 2009. We had a splendid meal of veggie frittata.

An Oregon Family Living in New Zealand. Thursday, December 31, 2009. Forgive us for being poor bloggers. Per our previous posts, we have had a few curve balls thrown at us- a parent dying and a quick trip back to Oregon for Cara and single parenthood for 3 weeks for me. Cara arrived back on the 11th and went right back to work and we mostly have settled back into "normal" life in Aotearoa. The next day (Boxing Day, a new holiday for us yanks) was spent at the beach in Sumner, building sand castles and wa...

All I can say is "ouch"! But I would have loved to have been there on the sidelines gazing at the dangly. Bits and pieces and laughing my ass off. Enjoy! Saturday, June 19, 2010. A 20 degree day (68 degrees for those of you who are Celsius impaired) on the eve of the Solstice allowed us a hike on the Tunnel Track at Godley Head.

An Oregon Family Living in New Zealand. Sunday, October 24, 2010. The Meeting of the Bloggers. It is a very small world. Before we moved to New Zealand, we did heaps of research including reading internet forums where ex-pats discussed the finer details of moving to New Zealand. We also read a handful of blogs, mostly by UK ex-pats to get an even more personal perpective on settling here. This. Fast became one of my favorite blogs for many reasons- Lindsay is a fantastic writer (and she makes me laugh!
