After fretting about the weather all week, and with the forecast promising a soggy one the day turned out completely fine- the downs had dried incredibly quickly and the race could have been done in road shoes. I had brought my grippiest minimalist trail shoes with me in anticipation of a mud-fest and they were fairly unforgiving on the hard cobbly sections and my poor battered toes are still letting me know that.
