A Prairie Girl in New England

A Prairie Girl in New England. Congress shut the government down two days ago. Our daughter was born 3 months ago yesterday. I quit my job so we could move to Vermont for Michael's dream job 4 months ago. In the midst of all of this I've been trying to understand something: how were we supposed to do all this without government assistance? What bootstraps were we supposed to grab? Where did we go wrong? In wanting to start a family? In striving for jobs that make us happy people? Links to this post.

A Prairie Girl in New England: Settling in.

http://prairiegirlnewengland.blogspot.com/2011/09/settling-in.html

A Prairie Girl in New England. Now that I'm no longer in school and just working. It's hard to figure out what to do to fill my days. I've re-joined the Y and am having a great time doing laps regularly. The only drawback: sometimes having to squeak my way around older folks swimming laps more slowly than I wish to swim mine. I've been taking Sully to Unity Park more often, but can't on rainy days like today. So here I am, streaming way too many TV shows. I tried Raising Hope. View my complete profile.

A Prairie Girl in New England: Heavy petting

http://prairiegirlnewengland.blogspot.com/2012/07/heavy-petting.html

A Prairie Girl in New England. Does a weekly interview with local morning DJ, Monte Belmonte. He usually comes in on my day off, but one week I was lucky enough to be there while he was recording. He ended up follwing Steve and I around during a possible urinary tract infection appointment. Hear me talk about urine and say "Oh boy" too many times. Click on the photo to listen. A Prairie Girl in New England: Bike Path Runs

http://prairiegirlnewengland.blogspot.com/2011/11/bike-path-runs.html

A Prairie Girl in New England. From Turners Falls River Culture. I try to run on our neighborhood bike path as often as I can. The days are getting shorter and colder, and I'll be sad when winter finally hits New England and my runs there dwindle down to none. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Born and raised near Chicago. Now living alongside my husband, our daughter, our dog, and our 3-legged cat in Vermont. View my complete profile. In the Pudding Club. Dipping the toe back in. The Mighty Bay Leaf.

A Prairie Girl in New England: December 2010

http://prairiegirlnewengland.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

A Prairie Girl in New England. Birdhouse in the bushes. On a morning walk on Christmas day, Sully and I stepped out our front gate to complete silence. Until then, I hadn't noticed that there's a pretty consistent hum of cars, trucks, and people in our neighborhood. I stood and took it all in while Sully had her morning pee. We headed across the street and I spotted a birdhouse hanging in the bushes. I didn't get a chance to get a closeup look until today. Links to this post. Links to this post. I try to...

The Mighty Bay Leaf: The Last Roast Chicken of 2010

http://mightybayleaf.blogspot.com/2010/12/last-roast-chicken-of-2010.html

The Mighty Bay Leaf. Friday, December 31, 2010. The Last Roast Chicken of 2010. This December 31st, The Mighty Bay Leaf and Wife Of Mighty Bay Leaf are foregoing the festivities, ball-drops and what-have-you, and kicking it at home with the dog and a Yankee Magazine recipe magazine, Christmas courtesy of Sister Of Mighty Bay Leaf. Rather than give you an ingredient list, I'll just all-caps what you need:. Don't even pretend you don't know what I'm talking about. Remove your chicken to the cutting board o...

The Mighty Bay Leaf: Hobbit Dinner

http://mightybayleaf.blogspot.com/2011/02/hobbit-dinner.html

The Mighty Bay Leaf. Wednesday, February 16, 2011. This is a recipe/dinner idea that I've pulled out occasionally since I lived in Chicago and became obsessed with the Lord of the Rings movies. Shut up. Hobbits eat well. And often. Remember Weathertop? Of course you do. Tomatoes? A brace of coneys? Ahem So if you want to eat like a hobbit. Here's what you do:. Buy a cast-iron skillet. Seriously. This will change your life, and I'm pretty sure the hobbits used one. So, authenticity right? However you like...

The Mighty Bay Leaf: Leftover Adventures, Issue No. 1

http://mightybayleaf.blogspot.com/2010/12/leftover-adventures-issue-no-1.html

The Mighty Bay Leaf. Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Leftover Adventures, Issue No. 1. You will need to have leftover:. You will also need:. Chohula chili garlic hot sauce (seriously). Noodles of some sort. So you've got lots of stuff leftover in your fridge from other recipes and who knows when or how you'll get to use them next? I do I do! But forget about measurements here, we're going to wing it. Butter. So will you. The butter soaks up all the flour and you get a nice little paste-wad/ball of onions.

The Mighty Bay Leaf: Hungarian Sausage & Cabbage Soup

http://mightybayleaf.blogspot.com/2011/02/hungarian-sausage-cabbage-soup.html

The Mighty Bay Leaf. Sunday, February 6, 2011. Hungarian Sausage and Cabbage Soup. First, before we get to the soup, I would like to apologize for taking so long to update this blog. I have been abstaining from the online social media world in 2011, as much as possible at least, and this blog has been neglected as a by-product. If you haven't eaten anything delicious yet this year, well, MY BAD. But I'm here to fix that (hooray! How easy is this soup to make? 1 It's time for everyone, and I mean EVERYONE...

The Mighty Bay Leaf: The Mighty Bay Leaf

http://mightybayleaf.blogspot.com/2010/12/mighty-bay-leaf.html

The Mighty Bay Leaf. Thursday, December 30, 2010. The Mighty Bay Leaf. This post isn't so much a recipe as it is an appreciation of that most humble of ingredients, the bay leaf. That shelf inhabitant that everyone has, and every recipe calls for, but few can guess what it's good for besides exercising the eyes once it's time to fish them out. However, this year I've come to love the bay leaf as an ingredient of faith. I can't always pick out its flavor but I trust that it's doing something.

http://mightybayleaf.blogspot.com/2011/01/leftover-adventures-issue-no-2.html

The Mighty Bay Leaf. Sunday, January 9, 2011. Leftover Adventures, Issue No. 2. God bless shepherds. They're out in the Montana wilderness in rain and snow, drinking and loving, dodging lightning and driving sheep, and for what? For Randy Quaid to kick them out on their asses and send them back to Michelle Williams and Anne Hatha. Still, they find the time to take some basic kitchen ingredients and whip them into something classic, quick, and passionately. Shepherd's pie, I wish I knew how to quit you.

The Mighty Bay Leaf: Cardamom Dinner Rolls

http://mightybayleaf.blogspot.com/2010/12/cardamom-dinner-rolls.html

The Mighty Bay Leaf. Friday, December 24, 2010. Adapted from Martha Stewart's website. The Mighty Bay Leaf generally prefers not to bake. Measurements are scary. Chemistry = blah. I messed this Martha Stewart recipe up real quick and had to run to the store on Christmas Eve to get more butter. But behold! Like the Star of Bethlehem, these glossy dinner rolls pictured on the right are LEGIT, actual dinner rolls that I made all by myself. It's a good thang. 1/4 cup warm water. 2 packets active dry yeast.

Musings of a Prairie Girl

Musings of a Prairie Girl. Sunday, June 28, 2015. I can't believe I did this. I have always wanted to make a piece of furniture. So I guess this would be kind of a bucket list thing. I wanted to make something for the husband to show how much I appreciate him for all he does. As all things things seem to start with me.I saw this. And with my Husband being a Chevy guy, I just HAD to make this for him. So here is where my first trip to Canadian Tire happened. My total for wood was about $48(my first trip a...
