MOUND: OUR WEEDS
http://nycgarden.blogspot.com/p/our-weeds_18.html
New York City Garden. Welcome to the weed atlas! Common Yarrow, Milfoil, or Field Yarrow. Young tree, often found growing on fencelines and in pavement cracks. Dame's rocket -also a mustard. Amaranth gone to seed. Common Ragweed. Too many people think that this is not the culprit for their allergies, yet it is. Flowering at the same time as Goldenrod, showy Goldenrod often gets the blame. Even allergy pill commercials seem to show yellow flowering plants in their scenes. The stems of Ragweed are reddish ...

MOUND: Easy Wooden Planters
http://nycgarden.blogspot.com/2008/05/easy-wooden-planters.html
New York City Garden. Sunday, June 1, 2008. This is a very simple planter box. It consists of two "U" shaped framing units and horizontal planks to tie the whole structure together. Wood plank and planter sizes can vary, so take my measurements as a rough guide. It all starts with some wood: scrap wood on the right, some bought pine on the left. In addition to the planks, you'll need some 2x2 pine or cedar (better) for the interior framing. Afterward, line up two 14 inch posts in the fashion you see abov...

MOUND: The Gardner
http://nycgarden.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-gardner.html
New York City Garden. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. My friend, Steve, took me to The Gardner. A Boston mansion of yore festooned with incredible artifacts, whose rooms invite photography yet rules regard it with suspicion due to an embarrassing theft of grand proportions 25 years ago. One may use a camera on the first floor, from which these images are taken. The court yard is truly divine. Those tall purple and white flowers belong to the plant Campanula pyramidalis. MOUND: February 2015
http://nycgarden.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
New York City Garden. Saturday, February 28, 2015. It's cold, people been saying it, making hay about it, FB feeds are full of it, especially the city New Yorkers. The native Minnesotan doesn't make too much of the cold, but I'm willing to point out that, here, it's cold all the time, so much so that when it is over 15 degrees F, we say it's warming. A few days ago, at a restaurant, the server said it was freezing out, and I laughed because, you know, it was 33 degrees below. And it thrills us. On March ...

From the Garden Bench. Friday, May 1, 2015. Why One has Insurance . or. This is SO How I Did Not Want to Spend my Day Off! Remember our new - well, nearly new - hardwood floors? We had them installed just over four years ago. [Here]. They looked a lot like this . Two evenings ago Mitchell heard water dripping . Turned out to be the hot water line from the water heater to the kitchen sink. And, it was gushing, not dripping! Pulling up the warped boards. Is that even a word? Sunday, April 26, 2015. We made...

http://fromthegardenbench.blogspot.com/2015_04_19_archive.html
From the Garden Bench. Sunday, April 19, 2015. It started off simply enough. Things are coming up nicely now. The plum bloomed last week and is already gone. Lilacs and wisteria are blooming next door. The dogwoods are open and the azaleas right behind them. The viburnum coming out. All in all, things are looking good and the weather has finally moved into spring-mode. Can you see where some critter has eaten the blooms, but left the leaves and stems? Nice clean teeth marks! Azaleas and a hosta. 66 Squar...

MOUND: Meet Me in Muttontown
http://nycgarden.blogspot.com/2009/08/meet-me-in-muttontown.html
New York City Garden. Friday, August 14, 2009. Meet Me in Muttontown. I came to the Muttontown Preserve in the fourth grade. Now that I think of the many nature-oriented trips we took that year, I am aware of the way a teacher can influence a young mind. I thought I might remember these trails, but it was hard to say whether I really did or not. It was familiar, but most of Long Island is to me by now. Is a collection of three Nassau County old Gold Coast. On the old Frick property, The Vanderbilt Museum.

From the Garden Bench: The To Do List for Inside
http://fromthegardenbench.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-to-do-list-for-inside.html
From the Garden Bench. Saturday, June 27, 2015. The To Do List for Inside. In April, my office looked like this:. OK It was a mess, but i could run a small corporation without getting up except to file. There's nothing I can say. Mitchell never met a horizontal surface that he didn't love. As a double office it has served us well - first, just a place for each of us to settle to surf the Web, or pay bills, or write letters (ok, email). You know, just stuff,. For a couple of months i used a folding table.
