Nutritional Sciences Department / Rutgers Center for Lipid Research. Duckweed is another potential source of Bio-fuel. Duckweed grows on ponds throughout the world. Despite its small size, it grows on the surface of water and can be easily harvested. Duckweed is also able to remove contaminants from water. We have measured the lipid content of 2 species of Duckweed- Lemna minor and Spirodela polyrhiza. Duckweeds: Spirodela polyrhiza (Giant). And Lemna minor (Lesser). Below is a Close-up of Lemna minor.
