Thursday, 27 August 2015. We left the hostel at 7:00 this morning and we've pretty much been on the coach ever since, bar a couple of stops along the way. We stopped at the same market we've been too several times now for snacks, and then we stopped at a little restaurant for lunch where I had some really tasty sweet and sour chicken and rice (still enjoyable, despite its familiarity by now). Tuesday, 25 August 2015. Back to project work this morning, although once again I was restricted to water bottle duty. I asked Dave if I was allowed to take part, but this was met with a very firm no! Although it was really hot (not that that was anything new), I coped really well and we all worked really efficiently as a group, managing to reach our target for the morning earlier than expected, which meant that we got to come back to camp early for an extended lunch. Tuesday, 25 August 2015. The stream was really close by though so it wasn't too much hassle. In the afternoon we were split between more concreting and teaching and the rest of the day continued as usual. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My name's Sophie and in July 2015 I spent four weeks in Borneo, volunteering there with the community whilst also undergoing conservation work in the rainforest and with the local wildlife - but mainly just having the time of my life!

Sunday, 30 August 2015. We left from the B&B after breakfast at 7:30 and the majority of the day has been spent travelling back to Kota Kinabalu. Only 6 of the POWs escaped and survived. All of the rest perished. It still is to date the biggest loss that the Australian military has ever experienced. We've just been out for a quick wander around some market stalls where I bought some hand-crafted jewellery made by local art students, and now we're back in the hostel again waiting to go out for dinner soon...

Monday, 31 August 2015. At 9:00 this morning we left the hostel for the final time after a quick breakfast and double-checking that we had everything. From there it's been the beginning of the long journey home. We went through the airport and onto the flight pretty quickly at KK, and around 2:20 we arrived in Singapore. Here is the week of 4/6-4/12 (Taper week #2). 4/6- Off (1st Day off in 113 days). 4/7- 9 miles (8 X 100m striders). 4/9- 9 miles ( 3 X 1600m @ 5K pace w/ 2 min. rest) (5:03, 4:59, 4:57). 4/11- 7 miles (8 X 100m striders).
