Rob's Adventures in Ethiopia. Wednesday, December 2, 2009. Reflections on the Trip. I can’t finish my blog off without writing about the students at the school. Many of them became my friends by the end of the experience, we had lots of fun which more than drowned out the memories I have of getting frustrated with their cheating/lateness for class (what a hard teacher I was! Rob's Adventures in Ethiopia: The Afterschool Coffee Club

http://rob-in-ethiopia.blogspot.com/2009/08/afterschool-coffee-club.html

Rob's Adventures in Ethiopia. Monday, August 10, 2009. The Afterschool Coffee Club. The last week has been packed full of interesting trips. I’ve been to the countryside to see some rural development projects, visited the houses of some of my students, and have had a trip to Mek’ele’s monument. There’s a lot to tell you all. They all seem well organised and happy, and support each other very well. Visit to Mai Zeg Zeg. Just from the name you can tell that this is an unpleasant organisation! The DERG rule...

Rob's Adventures in Ethiopia: June 2009

http://rob-in-ethiopia.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Rob's Adventures in Ethiopia. Monday, June 29, 2009. Welcome to my new weblog! I'm off on my travels again, and will shortly be departing for a 6-week project in Ethiopia. I've had itchy-feet ever since returning from my year in Mongolia (to see my blog on Mongolia please visit http:/ rob-in-mongolia.blogspot.com/. So I can't wait to go off to another country and see what life is like there. This will be my first trip to an African nation, so no doubt I'm in for many new experiences and surprises.

Rob's Adventures in Ethiopia: Welcome to Abba Gabremichael School

http://rob-in-ethiopia.blogspot.com/2009/07/welcome-to-abba-gabremichael-school.html

Rob's Adventures in Ethiopia. Sunday, July 12, 2009. Welcome to Abba Gabremichael School. On Sunday Ged, Lynda (my fellow volunteers) and I arrived in Mekele, the capital city of the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia. We were greeted by our hosts, Sister Feseha (the nun in charge of the school we’re working in) and Nugus (the school’s administrator). It was great to finally make it to our destination! The Aba Gabremichael School. Living with the Daughters of Charity. However, we are "guests", and beside...

http://rob-in-ethiopia.blogspot.com/2009/07/silence-of-goats.html

Rob's Adventures in Ethiopia. Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Silence of the Goats. So, a third of the way through already! Time flies, as I’m being put to good use. Aside from the daily English language classes I’ve been fitting in trips to see the school’s football teams, visits to the homes of families and various large meals that the nuns have been giving us! The challenges of being a student from the streets. And "Which country do you hate? When answering the "which country do you hate? On this page I'll ...

Rob's Adventures in The Gambia: August 2011

http://rob-in-gambia.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Rob's Adventures in The Gambia. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Welcome to the Smiling Coast. Greetings from the Gambia! This is the scene that I met at Banjul International airport - to a certain extent the description the local tourist industry gives to Gambia is true, it really is Africa's "smiling coast"! For now, I'll just give you a quick update on the things that have struck me so far. This is the life. We're currently in the rainy season, and so are experiencing heavy rainpours every day or so. The...

Mot de passe :. J'ai oublié mon mot de passe. You Are In My Life. Well you done done me and you bet I felt it. I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted. I fell right through the cracks. And now I'm trying to get back. Before the cool done run out. I'll be giving it my bestest. Nothing's going to stop me but divine intervention. I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some. But I won't hesitate no more, no more. It can not wait, I'm yours. Well open up your mind and see like me. Look i...

Rob's Blog

Not just about China! 04:47 pm September 28th, 2008. After Machu Picchu I had a three day trip to the amazon jungle. I flew from 3200m to a wonderfully low 600m. It felt AMAZING to be able to breath so effortlessly and with all the trees and excess oxygen I was in heaven. Not to mention the wonderful summer heat. It was a good time. We also heard this cry from up in the trees, and our guide scurried off to find the source. UP THERE! Now Im in Cusco, enjoying my time wandering around doing a little shoppi...

Rob (is no longer) in Europe

Rob (is no longer) in Europe. After submitting my PhD thesis I wandered around Europe for six months (way back in 2008–2009). Rob's Adventures in The Gambia. Saturday, January 21, 2012. Crossing the finishing line. The Brufut Half Marathon. My last day in The Gambia was coincidentally the day of the big race, the Brufut Half Marathon. I'd been training for the last few months, braving the heat (and the bemused stares! After an hour waiting, the thirty participants had arrived, and we were ready for the off. Come on, you're losing! Or "you can do better! Try, try, try - you're not as quick as the others! It was such a relief to ...
