a solitary grace: move
http://asolitarygrace.blogspot.com/2008/10/move.html
Saturday, October 4, 2008. It's been exactly one year since I began this blog "a solitary grace." At the time, it marked a new chapter in my life- a life without cancer, without a husband, without Robert. I began it with the idea of surviving loss, settling for peace over joy and a life alone. But, recently, someone asked me, "Do you feel like Robert is still with you? And, surprisingly, my first thought was, "I hope not.". Outergrace.blogspot.com) and no longer write here at "a solitary grace...The i...

a solitary grace: first day of school
http://asolitarygrace.blogspot.com/2008/09/first-day-of-school.html
Wednesday, September 17, 2008. First day of school. I still have not finished the paintings for WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON, but I stopped for a school visit in Rome, Georgia. The school put me up in this gorgeous B&B, The Claremont House. But I shouldn't have worried. The Darlington School. Stretched their imagination with UGLY VEGETABLES. And shared their fears like OLVINA. That's only a sampling of what they did. They also made origami, kites, soup.so by the time I arrived, the students ...It's ...

a solitary grace: May 2008
http://asolitarygrace.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 26, 2008. I've been traveling so much that I tend to forget about the place where I actually live. I've been in the Boston area for more than 12 years now, on and off, and I think it's one of the best places for a children's book author and illustrator. I love when children's books seep into the real world like. A children's bookstore called Curious George,. Or a tree made into Pooh's house,. And a statue of ducklings. Posted by Grace Lin. Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Where, if you remember. It's c...

Tuesday, September 30, 2008. So I finished the artwork for WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON right under the wire.okay, I bent the wire a bit, so I had to get the art there as soon as possible. So, I decided the fastest way was to jump in the car and bring it to New York, NY myself. But I do know, the thing that most cured my mental blahs was this:. My elusive half-moon cookies. Which is good, because I am now doing a three-week marathon of school visits in Texas. Yes, three weeks. Posted by Grace Lin.

a solitary grace: February 2008
http://asolitarygrace.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Earlier in the month illustrator Rebecca Doughty. And I for tea at her studio. I looked forward to it with great anticipation, because I think seeing other people's studios are fascinating. My own studio always seems to be a work in progress, which is why I have never finished the "studio tour" portion of my website. It's only been under construction for three years. Something tells me the studio tour on my website will need another three years. Posted by Grace Lin. Luckily, t...

a solitary grace: January 2008
http://asolitarygrace.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 31, 2008. So, our unscrupulous taxi driver dropped us off at what I think was the. Miaoying Temple White Dagoba. Of course, we didn't know this at the time, but I deduced as much from my guidebook later. We were given a complimentary tour guide with the price of admission, but he didn't speak and English so Jen worked as translator with amusing results. For example, when the tour guide spoke at great length at each of these locations, Jen's version was as follows:. But that white thing?

Friday, August 29, 2008. After Robert's memorial service, his Aunt Vicky handed me a tin of.half-moon cookies! They were delicious, even though they were not like the ones I had in my childhood. As soon as I finish my book (2 more paintings to go! I'll reciprocate the half-moon cookie gift. But in the meantime (at her request), this is recipe of the cookies from my youth:. HALF-MOON COOKIES (HEMSTROUGHT'S BAKERY). Source: Saveur Magazine, March 1999. 3 3/4 cups flour. 3/4 tsp. baking powder. Put sugar, b...

Anik's Sketch-A-Day: An unexpected find!
http://afewsketches.blogspot.com/2014/10/an-unexpected-find.html
One day. one sketch. at least. Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Yesterday we went on a little hike and were surprised to find this in a nearby park. A flock of sheep accompanied by their friendly neighborhood Great Pyrenees! This is an an odd sight to find unexpectedly in New York suburbia. Our puppy, Loupiot (a Pyrenean Shepherd), was quite interested to meet his compatriot. And then he posed a bit. And checked out the funny looking woolly beasts. And then ran off to play with the kids. You see a circus.
