Rob's Scrapbook

Heigh-ho, heigh ho. Sometimes you just have one of those days where you are just so pleased that your job is what it is. For me, yesterday was one of those. I had been invited, with my departmental health and safety hat on, to visit the underground laboratory. We didn't have time to visit the working face (which would have been close to a two hour round trip), but we did get to visit a location where some scientific equipment (a muon detector) was about to be set up. This location was a half hour dri...

Rob's Scrapbook: 2010-07

http://robharper.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Time Travel in Ireland. Wow, it's been an awfully long time since I posted, so I've got a fair bit to catch up on. What first? Well, last month we had a week or so in Ireland, mostly to visit family, but with a couple of days to do some exploring and touristing. Places visited included Cahir Castle. A nice castle on a little island in the river), the Rock of Cashel. Spectacular ruined cathedral and other buildings on a rocky hill), and the Irish National Heritage Park. Rob's Scrapbook: Catching Up 2: Getting Older

http://robharper.blogspot.com/2010/02/catching-up-2-getting-older.html

Catching Up 2: Getting Older. So we ended up having a fantastic evening, kicking off with an enormous amount of food and drink to get people started, followed by a series of entertainments. I can't remember the precise order of things, so I'll just blurt out some of the highlights. We were also entertained at a couple of times during the evening by V and K, who had brought some lovely kites to float around the hall. Good fun. Then later, things calmed down for a little while before a session kicked off w...

Whispers & Moans: September 2011

http://robstradling.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Rob Stradling's stream of semi-consciousness. Written on a QWERTY keyboard, in the English language. Monday, September 19, 2011. Who Lives In A Shoulder Like This? I finally underwent arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) at the weekend to perform "capsular release" which - despite sounding like an intriguing option from the menu of a seedy massage parlour - is actually to do with excising inflamed tissue to treat adhesive capsulitis. All of which seem to be becoming my regular mid-September thing.

Were at it again at the Swansea Metropolitan Townhill Theatre last weekend, laying down swing standards to an appreciative audience of students and old ladies. There was boogie and good times in the moonlight, and no-one disappeared on the flight home. V for Victory. Meanwhile, I'm in rehearsals for "Much Ado About Nothing".

Rob Stradling's stream of semi-consciousness. Written on a QWERTY keyboard, in the English language. Thursday, December 30, 2010. So anyway, H and I sat under the tree on Christmas morning and unwrapped our jumpers. Yes, we bought each other jumpers. "Darling, it's over. We're middle aged." I said, and hugged her tightly for a fearful moment, as we stared together into the oncoming storm. If the experience contained any truth, then the future will be mostly about baubles. Whispers & Moans: The Sky's Falling For You

http://robstradling.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-skys-falling-for-you.html

Rob Stradling's stream of semi-consciousness. Written on a QWERTY keyboard, in the English language. Friday, October 05, 2012. The Sky's Falling For You. I have never knowingly listened to an Adele song before. Although it's impossible to conduct a modern life without knowing who she is, what she does, and how heavy she is this week, it perversely requires no effort at all to avoid actually hearing her sing. This isn't it, though. It, it is. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Rob Stradling's stream of semi-consciousness. Written on a QWERTY keyboard, in the English language. Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Fire, Blood and Anguish. After a hideously short, intense rehearsal process, Swansea Little Theatre rolled out J.B. Priestley's An Inspector Calls last night, to a full house. The classic play's presence on the GCSE syllabus has ensured big audiences for the run, which lasts until Saturday 19th. Which only increased the sense of a backs-to-the-wall triumph. So it's Thanks and...

Just another WordPress.com site. I have learned a lot in the two web classes that I have taken, but I could have learned more had I been able to go back and tell myself a few things. Read this from cover to cover. Again, this should be obvious. Reading through each chapter woud have given me a better understanding of the material we were covering in class. The exercises in the book are actually very useful and will help you out with the class exercises. It’s ok to Fail. Validate… all the time. Most impor...

Welcome to the magical galleries of Studio 5. The ironic and fanciful paintings of Rob March Harper contain an idiosyncratic combination of cartoon figures and natural elements, utilizing reference to popular art and popular culture in a striking and thought-provoking context. Oakland, CA artist Rob Harper paints what he likes - airplanes, trains, waterfalls, waves, hamburgers and cartoons. He defies the laws of nature many times by painting the assortment of these on the same canvas.
