This game is a version of Rogue 5.2. It was originally written by Michael Toy, Ken Arnold, and Glenn Wichman, released in April 1982, and distributed with BSD. It is called V4 because it has more in common with the previous 4.x releases than with the 5.x versions which followed it. The Roguelike Restoration Project. Updated Rogue 5.2 to run on modern systems. The Roguelike Gallery's version has been further modified to work with dgamelaunch and to log the results of all games.

Super-Rogue

Super-Rogue was developed from Rogue 3.6. By Robert Kindelberger, who added many new monsters and items. The final version, numbered 9.0, was completed in 1984. Some of Super-Rogue's features, such as shops, mazes, and cockatrices, appeared in the original Hack at about the same time. The Roguelike Restoration Project. XRogue is a further development of Advanced Rogue 7. Created by Robert Pietkivitch. He completed this version, numbered 8.0, in 1991 or 1992. Compared to its predecessor, it features interface improvements and small adjustments to the game's balance. The Roguelike Restoration Project. Updated the game to run on modern computers. The Roguelike Gallery has fixed some bugs related to command repetition and saved games.

Advanced Rogue 5

Advanced Rogue is a derivative of Rogue 3.6. With borrowings from Super-Rogue. It was developed at AT&T, mainly by Michael Morgan and Ken Dalka. Version 5.8 was released in 1985. The game added some new ideas that almost every later roguelike would adopt, like character classes and the ability to freely move up and down levels. The Roguelike Restoration Project. Updated the game to run on modern systems. The Roguelike Gallery's version contains a few more bugfixes. Download it here.
