Fear and Trembling

Tuesday, April 12, 2011. I have been revisiting a book I read a few years ago, The Life: The Orthodox Doctrine of Salvation. It is so refreshing to think back through the struggles I have faced and remember that "He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus." - Phil. 1:6. This reassurance gives me hope and longing for the restoration of all things (including myself! We were created to "rule" the earth, not in a tyrannical way, but rather as images of God. In the Bible, a...

Fear and Trembling: July 2009

http://sacramentalheart.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 18, 2009. I wanted to take a minute to talk briefly about sacraments. Here is a brief description of sacraments from the Orthodox perspective:. One thing that I've learned to appreciate so much more since I became Orthodox is the celebration of matter. This may seem silly, but it is wonderful to realize how sacred our own flesh, bone, marrow and everything that makes up the world is! I also wanted to take this time to relay a wonderful analogy of why sacraments exist:. Have are the senses ...

Fear and Trembling: The Lord's Prayer

http://sacramentalheart.blogspot.com/2009/08/lords-prayer.html

Wednesday, August 5, 2009. I love the picture of this guy praying the Lord's prayer :). Notes from yesterday's class:. The Church has called this “The Perfect Prayer”. This is said in the Liturgy almost immediately before receiving the Holy Mysteries. This is because it is the best prayer to pray before meeting Christ. This is not a general prayer for everyone. It is given specifically to Christians and the Church. Our Father who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name. This goes hand in hand with the prayer...

Fear and Trembling: January 2010

http://sacramentalheart.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 30, 2010. I realize that I have, in a way, just thrown together some random thoughts without too much regard for coherence. So in order to tie it together, let me end with a quote:. To the superficial and the guilty it is more comfortable to bathe in the shallow pool of human thought than in the dangerous depths of Christ." - St. Nikolai Velimirovich. Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Fear and Trembling: April 2010

http://sacramentalheart.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Lent is finally over; and what a journey it was! I went through a lot of personal junk and am thankful to God that I made it through. It seems that the enemy doesn't sleep during Lent, but awakens with arrows ready. I took that with me and am trying to learn how to do that again. It is so easy to just hear 3-4 minute songs and not concentrate on what you are experiencing. I am trying to regain that focus. I think I'll get rid of the television. Links to this post.

Beer/Run: January 2013

http://davesbeerrun.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 09, 2013. November Nashville Beer Tour. So it's been a couple of months since our beer tour of Nashville (technically, it was the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Plus Brewery Tour, since we also ate at several restaurants we saw profiled on DD&D). Life and general busy-ness blocked my original intent to blog, but I'll post just a few pics and thoughts here. Doubling up on Dos Perros. Our tour guide, Seth Green (actual name! After dinner at a Greek diner (Athens Family Restaurant, which wa...

Beer/Run: Day 365 of 365

http://davesbeerrun.blogspot.com/2013/12/day-365-of-365.html

Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Day 365 of 365. Cindy worked late the first New Year's Eve we spent together, too; we ended that night an actual couple, so I'm pretty much OK with a reprise nine years later. Overall, though, my New Year's Eve history had been pretty uniformly poor, including the following highlights:. Being stood up for a date when I was 16. Watching the Tigers lose on television while I was home with a cold when I was 20. It's a sorry history, for sure, and it'd be a depressing list except ...

Friday, February 14, 2014. State of the Homebrew Pipeline Address. Four different homebrewed beers are now making their way through my pipleline, the most I've had going at any one time. Here is the roster, from most recently to least recently brewed:. Racked to secondary this week: Pale Ale with Rye. Racked to secondary last week and currently cold conditioning: California Common. Kegged this week: Oatmeal Sweet Stout. Kegged and ready to serve: Belgian Blonde with Mosaic Hops. View my complete profile.

Beer/Run: August 2011

http://davesbeerrun.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 28, 2011. Too Early to Plan Ahead for 2012? I have visions of a train ride, multiple deep dish outings, a return sampling of Goose Island favorites, and a nice little run around the city as an element in my year-long celebration of my 40th birthday. I'm still a long way from being able to run anything like 26.2 miles again yet, but I've always found concrete goals to be great motivators. Friday, August 26, 2011. Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Beer/Run: October 2012

http://davesbeerrun.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 19, 2012. The Prettier Half and I are planning to make a quick quick trip to Nashville this weekend. I hope to visit at least three breweries while there: the biggish one (Yazoo), the medium-to-small newish one (Jackalope), and the brand-new one (Fat Bottom). If I'm on my game, I'll try to snap a few pics and then write a small piece about each of them once we return. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. A life laced up. Beer/Run: July 2012

http://davesbeerrun.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 23, 2012. Joseph Labonte [while looking through his family's refrigerator]: "Bee-ah". Friday, July 06, 2012. My evening board meeting having been postponed, I'm making a night of doing my wife's laundry, watching the Cardinals game, eating Fourth of July leftovers, and drinking cider. I saw lovely churches, worshiping at both St. Paul's in London and St. Patrick's in Dublin, even though I was spiritually in a pretty dark place (and was probably a little hungover both days, too). My main memo...

Beer/Run: October 2011

http://davesbeerrun.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 27, 2011. I still drink beer and I still run. But I haven't written lately. I need to resume writing to clear my head/hash out ideas/not lose the ability. However, since I feel no strong desire to write about the stated foci of the blog, I'll most likely keep those written thoughts private. Hence, I'm making this blog's unofficial hiatus official. Should my musings stray back to Ales and Trails, though, I'll post them here. Thanks for reading. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A life laced up.

July 30th, 12:36. This is why I love Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt:. People love hearing terrible details of news tragedies. One, it's titillating like a horror movie. Two, it makes them feel like a good person because they care about a stranger. Three, it makes people feel safe that it did not happen to them.". July 30th, 11:12. This is "White Privilege". Policy. Culture. People. Place. How long can sports survive its business side? March 29, 2017. March 29, 2017. I have been a pretty big sports fan for most of my life, but today I worry about the next generation of sports fans and the games themselves. At the end of the day, what are we rooting for? The players increasingly come and go. The owners are just some random billionaires. What’s left? What kid wouldn’t love that? Bestowed on the Giants? That’s a harder question to answer.
