A blog about my scholarly exploits and crippling fandom. Current Events and Politics. Native American Mascots: It Ain’t About Who is Offended. May 27, 2016. May 28, 2016. Jacqueline Keeler, a Navajo/Yankton Dakota Sioux writer, just published a piece in. On the Washington, D.C. NFL club’s mascot. You know the one. The piece is worth a read. It is both passionate and thoughtful, which for me hits a real sweet spot. Let me reiterate, the poll is problematic. And, I do not think we should interpret it&#...

A blog about my scholarly exploits and crippling fandom. So, I Decided It was Time To Start My Own Blog. August 28, 2013. Can’t forget sports. Since I’m getting hungry I’ll keep this short. I have no idea where this will lead, but it should be fun. Quick Thoughts on Kaepernick and Ellison’s Column at TheRoot.com. Quick Thoughts on Wilbon’s Mission Impossible: Bruh. Native American Mascots: It Ain’t About Who is Offended. PATHS TO RESPECTABILITY: CONSUMER CULTURE AND THE BLACK MIDDLE CLASS (1 of several).

A blog about my scholarly exploits and crippling fandom. Quick Thoughts on Kaepernick and Ellison’s Column at TheRoot.com. September 1, 2016. Charles Ellison’s Aug. 31st column at the Root.com. Came across my twitter feed today. He looks to make the “pro-Black” case for standing during the national anthem. To say the least I am disappointed in the column, because rather than do much to convince us that standing is right Ellison mostly tries to convince us that Kaepernick is wrong. He plays pocket watcher.

A blog about my scholarly exploits and crippling fandom. The Seductive Logic of White Supremacy, Part 2. August 18, 2014. August 18, 2014. I call “broken windows” policing what it is: fear-based collective punishment in the service of white supremacy. In part 2 I discuss broken windows’ most infamous policy innovations: stop-and-frisk and police militarization. Broken Windows Begets Stop-and-Frisk*. To a degree that European immigrants never faced). Justification for stop-and-frisk, but far more importan...

Scholarly Gamer
Wednesday, October 28, 2009. I don't have time to write my full thoughts on some of the games I managed to finish since September, but here are the quick hits. Muramasa: The Demon Blade. I haven't technically finished the game (two more endings on each character to go.) but after putting in the 15 hours on each character, I feel like I just need to come back to this some time down the line. An outstanding premise on its own), but the way it is incorporated into the game's narrative is clever as well.
