We spent yesterday along the Kanzaki River, east of Lake Biwa in the Shiga prefecture. The forested rocky cliffs along the river were prime habitat for the Japanese Fire Belly newt ( Cynops pyrrhogaster). Besides the fire belly newt, I also caught this Japanese Brown frog (Rana japonica). I love the leafy, reddish color. Japanese fire belly newt.

On Monday we went to see the Hanshin Tigers to host the Chunichi Dragons. The Dragons won 9-2, and the 44 year old player-coach for the Dragons, was 4-4 with a home run and double to lead them to victory. They are building a new Suita Stadium, which is close by the current stadium. It will open next season. Both stadiums are in the Expo ’70 or Bampaku park and it is a really nice area. We bike and run around and in the park often. Tribalism and Nationalism are present in soccer stadiums around the world, including Gamba Osaka.

Around 250,000 Bolivians live in the Virginia side of the DC area and it felt like we were in Cochabamba! Ocean and I check the bees. Kim allowed us to check on her bees. She is a conservationist and works for the US Forest Service and is an avid beekeeper. It was quite an experience for the kids and me! July 28, 2016.
