Wesleyology: Unlikely Places
http://wesleyanrudy.blogspot.com/2011/05/unlikely-places.html
Conversing with the founders of Methodism on various matters of theology. It is well known that John Wesley had an experience. In which he found his heart "strangely warmed" in the evening of May 24, 1738 in a simple building on Aldersgate Street in London. Less well known is that earlier in the day Wesley attended St. Paul's Cathedral, whose beauty and grandeur you can see on a very minuscule scale here. (Do a Google Image search for "St. Paul's Cathedral, London". To see other views.). Listening to Sma...

Conversing with the founders of Methodism on various matters of theology. A Wesleyan Appropriation of the Cry of Dereliction - Part 4. In concluding this series on exploring a Wesleyan interpretation of the cry of dereliction, we will pick up where we left off the last post, which appealed to Wesley's belief of Christ's human will as submissive to the will of God. This, in my view, leads naturally to what I see as the richest pastoral payoff for this passage. Sound like Christ on the cross? It may just b...

Thoughts on faith and society. The Growth of Love. November 25, 2014. By Paul Martin Waters. The Growth of Love. Let me say it straight away: This book is highly recommended for anyone who works with children, lives with children, or has any contact with children whatsoever. But it is also recommended for anyone who wants to reflect a little on what “the good life” might be, and what sort of premises it might build on. If you buy it now you can skip the rest of this post🙂. The Rise of the Dones. You are...

Thoughts on faith and society. Author Archives: Paul Martin Waters. May 15, 2016. By Paul Martin Waters. 8230; healthy local churches can be, and should be, both. Local churches should be characterized by deep roots. Wide reaches. Churches should be theologically sound. Culturally relevant. We should be bold in our proclamation. Winsome in our approach. In the Gospels we find in Jesus the embodiment of both. As his body, we should be as well. Who are we doing it for? Have we got a plan? August 19, 2015.

Ponderings and wonderings…. The greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender William Booth. We exist for kids like these. May 27, 2012. Yep… another story about some revelations I’ve had after my interactions with kids recently. Today I had yet another one. 8221; . She slowly shook her head and said “no”… I replied to her “do you want to come and be my friend and sit next to me? 8221; . She smiled and got her stuff and came and sat next to me. And again I said. “I will” . 2 responses ».

Ponderings and wonderings…. The greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender William Booth. March 29, 2012. As I reflected on this comment with my friend we realised that as much as we joke about it, this is actually a really serious problem. A lot of us have a enslaving relationship with food. We are in bondage to food. Because while we’re not living this life in all its fullness, we’re also not being good stewards of our body- this marvellous gift that God has given us. As...This morning ...

How will things change? 8221; she asks herself as the tears roll down her cheeks. She lies on a mat …. the hopelessness of it all overwhelming her. She’s not the only person on a mat, and she wasn’t always the one on the mat. There’s another story. So what did they do? We just never know when in life we’re going...

I’m the kind of girl who has a lot of ideas, all of the time and about a variety of things in life. I read this recently on a blog: ( http:/ uncagedinternational.org/. 8220;Okay, folks. Let’s get this straight no one but YOU will ‘dream’. The dream that you dream, ‘do’. What it takes to accomplish it, ‘fight’. When disappointment and failure push back.

Ponderings and wonderings…. The greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender William Booth. Riding the waves of life. June 30, 2012. As I stood on the shore with the surfboard in hand I took a deep breath. You see, I am absolutely petrified of waves. I hate them. I had a particularly bad experience when swimming at the beach as a kid and ever since I have hated waves. So after taking that breath I slowly took one step at a time heading out towards the deeper water. 8220;Really God, joy?
