The ‘Ballycotton 10’, which is a 10 Mile road race about 30 miles east of where I live and on the coast. This is a very very long standing road race and is very well attended by runners from across the country and beyond! My goals for the race were to execute a good nutrition plan, improve on my swim time from last year and hopefully dip closer to or under the 5 hour Mark. The week leading up to the event saw swollen rivers and strong flow. It was a river swim with overall 1,500m up stream and 1500 down river. Of course race week is bringing the usual mental challenges: my heel is achy, my back feels right, my legs feel heavy, I feel tired all the time, I’m not really sleeping well (bwcaue of extra energy , I reckon). The body has a funny way of preparing for the arrival of the pain train. I fly out to Zurich on Thursday. My lead up will be planned to the minute/hour. The (now) regular Visitor; my demons.
