SNOOKER SCENE BLOG: November 2013

http://snookerscene.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

News, opinion and insight from the green baize. David may have beaten Goliath according to biblical myth but victory for any of the four amateurs playing the top four seeds in York today would make that particular result look like a lot of fuss about nothing. Shane Castle is only 15 but faces Mark Selby. Rhys Clark will play Ronnie O’Sullivan. Dylan Mitchell tackles Neil Robertson. Antony Parsons takes on Ding Junhui. But for the BBC, the professional game would never have become what it has. When sn...

SNOOKER SCENE BLOG: A CENTURY OF MAXIMUMS

http://snookerscene.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-century-of-maximums.html

News, opinion and insight from the green baize. A CENTURY OF MAXIMUMS. From Oldham Civic Centre to the Barbican in York with many stops in between it has taken just under 32 years since Steve Davis made the first official 147 break for Mark Selby to compile the 100. Fittingly, it was dramatic. Selby played a great shot to go round the table from brown to blue but was left needing the rest for the pink. He potted it but was left with a tough black, which he dropped in dead weight to the left middle. But w...

SNOOKER SCENE BLOG: PODCAST#6...JAN VERHAAS

http://snookerscene.blogspot.com/2009/03/podcast6jan-verhaas.html

News, opinion and insight from the green baize. The latest Snooker Scene podcast features top referee Jan Verhaas answering your rules queries. It was cut short as Jan had to go off and referee so at the end you can hear my views on the players who have qualified for the Crucible. You can listen to the podcast here. Is it true that Jan Verhaas is seven feet tall? I heard this via someone who met him recently. I think Jan Verhaas is 6'6". Great podcast. I wouldn't mind hearing from Jan again. Jamie - what...

SNOOKER SCENE BLOG: ALI GEED UP BY SHANGHAI WIN

http://snookerscene.blogspot.com/2010/09/ali-geed-up-by-shanghai-win.html

News, opinion and insight from the green baize. ALI GEED UP BY SHANGHAI WIN. Ali Carter’s consistency over the last two years has been the key in him rising to second in the world rankings but, like any top player, what he wants is titles. He won his second ranking event with a hard fought 10-7 victory over Jamie Burnett in the Shanghai Masters. Neither player was at their best. Burnett played some good safety but couldn’t score. In my profile of him. Two months ago, I wrote:. The Shanghai Masters wasn&#...
