Is a development project of TECOM, an investment branch of Dubai Holdings. Knowledge Village. And, there are considerable incentives for businesses around the world to trade in Abu Dhabi. The city has esta...

A little bit of funny from a whole lot of friends. Saturday, March 5, 2011. Wells Fargo Must Not Bank In Dubai. The next week of posts will be based on experiences and observations that I'm having while visiting the Middle East, as I am currently in Dubai for a grad school class. Enjoy! Before you ever leave the country, it's always wise to call your bank to make sure they know you'll be out of town so they don't shut off your card when charges appear from overseas. DON'T HANG UP ON ME OR TRANSFER ME AGA...

OddBook: Try Walking A Mile In That Dress
http://oddbook.blogspot.com/2011/03/try-walking-mile-in-that-dress.html
A little bit of funny from a whole lot of friends. Saturday, March 26, 2011. Try Walking A Mile In That Dress. One of my most lasting memories of our visit to the Middle East will always be the warmth and sincerity in the way that people greeted us, and asked us questions about our lives back home. In the back of my mind, I guess I truly believed that I might be turned away or treated poorly by Arabs who dislike Americans when visiting the UAE. Why didn't we get the col. Oh, but wait! Including Jersey Sh...

OddBook: Is Potato Salad Arabic?
http://oddbook.blogspot.com/2011/03/is-potato-salad-arabic.html
A little bit of funny from a whole lot of friends. Thursday, March 10, 2011. Is Potato Salad Arabic? The answer would be no, but it's readily available in Dubai. Neither is a traditional English breakfast or Cheetos or KFC but all of that is everywhere here too. Not losing a whole lot of sleep over missing out on that, by the way.]. Needless to say, our breakfast at the Sheraton Four Points Dubai. No pork here, folks],. Foul is not literal, and it's pronounced differently in Lebanese - "fool".]. Cantalou...

OddBook: Everyone loves WalMart, even if you call it Carrefour
http://oddbook.blogspot.com/2011/03/everyone-loves-walmart-even-if-you-call.html
A little bit of funny from a whole lot of friends. Thursday, March 10, 2011. Everyone loves WalMart, even if you call it Carrefour. One of the most striking aspects of Dubai is the audacious materialism that underlies every architectural project and the vehicle choices of every Emirati. Ferraris and Maseratis are the norm, with Mercedes, BMW and Porsche coming in as a close second. Nder that now the Wal-Marts of the world are just as popular here in Dubai as they are everywhere else. Wal-Mart doesn't...

OddBook: 14 Hours of Entertainment
http://oddbook.blogspot.com/2011/03/14-hours-of-entertainment.html
A little bit of funny from a whole lot of friends. Monday, March 7, 2011. 14 Hours of Entertainment. The flight from Atlanta to Dubai is 14 hours long, and generally leaves at night so you will arrive at night on the following day due to the 9-hour time difference between our side of the world and theirs. If you know me at all, none of this surprises you. Of course I met almost everyone on the plane and set up a bar in the back of it. What else would I do on a 14-hour flight? Right as Kay finished her st...
