I Intro to Stithians. I Me and this blog. I Stithians Bird List 2015. I News and Events. Saturday, 9 May 2015. Blog posts seem to be as rare as gold dust hereabouts at the moment, time to try and put that to rights a little I guess. Work, Spring and Life unfortunately all partially to blame - still coming to grips with all three. Oh, and Netflix too . The last post (which was itself a late post) started off with a nice list of birds which hadn't. Would Stithians be completely left out ? Myself and Samuel...

Stithians Reservoir Birding : December 2014

http://www.stithiansreservoirbirding.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

I Intro to Stithians. I Me and this blog. I Stithians Bird List 2015. I News and Events. Friday, 19 December 2014. 19th December 2014 - of hybrids and stinkhorns. Headed up to the reservoir again today on feeder duty and had a bit of a look around . Male Reed Bunting on the feeders. Stinkhorn Mushroom just outside the Southern Hide. Returning back to the SH hide and it looked as if something had spooked the wildfowl - they were all out in the open water but no obvious raptors (ie Peregrines) to be seen &...

http://www.stithiansreservoirbirding.blogspot.com/2015/04/once-bittern.html

I Intro to Stithians. I Me and this blog. I Stithians Bird List 2015. I News and Events. Friday, 3 April 2015. Due to be away for the week to the parents in France, so my regular Friday visit swapped for the Wednesday, and a little later in the day . From the Stuart Hutchings hide -. 1 Slavonian Grebe (looking a little smarter perhaps). From the Southern hide -. 1 Canada Goose flew through. The south west corner from the Southern Causeway. Managed to track it's direction (whilst staying on the road mysel...

Stithians Reservoir Birding : January 2015

http://www.stithiansreservoirbirding.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

I Intro to Stithians. I Me and this blog. I Stithians Bird List 2015. I News and Events. Saturday, 31 January 2015. The week flies. Admittedly Saturday to Friday isn't quite a full week, and only 6 days, but still . At first glance the view from the hide wasn't that enthralling - a handful of gulls and distant Cormorants, but sure enough the birds were out there. Synchronised Cormorants - the next olympic event? Lean to the left . ok, not quite that synchronised then. Lapwings looking a bit worried.

Samuel Birding: December 2014

http://samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Monday, 29 December 2014. Started the day with some interest (red AL24, right leg) alongside a Danish ringed Black-headed Gull. J-06) Priory Country Park was brimming with human activity but there were still decent numbers of wildfowl including Wigeon. Were also in song, 2 Kingfishers. Were about and the Finger Lakes hosted a couple Shoveler. Common Gull with red colour ring AL24. Was the first bird of note, followed by a Green Sandpiper. Feeding in the reedmace. Given that both my normal patches (Ki...

Samuel Birding: The big outdoors (16th-30th June)

http://samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-big-outdoors-16th-30th-june.html

Wednesday, 1 July 2015. The big outdoors (16th-30th June). I was based in Falmouth until the 24th June spending Mondays and Fridays working at Perran Sands and on days off I was working at the field or sorting the house out in preparation for leaving. The 16th involved doing odd jobs around town but in amongst all the mayhem of rushing around the countryside I still managed to get singing Cuckoo. On the day list as well as Tawny Owl. Quartering fields near Treverva. The following day was spent nest recor...

Were a treat to watch in their full summer breeding plumage but I spent most of my time gazing onto rockpools where I photographed Common Blenny. And S tar Ascidian. Sum plum Great Northern Divers. Common Sea Slater, Ligia oceanica. Star Ascidian, Botryllus schlosseri. Seawatching from Pendennis Point all west late afternoon until 21:15:.

Samuel Birding: January 2015

http://samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, 24 January 2015. Went for the usual monthly WeBS (Wetland Bird Survey) with Dan on 20th January. We encompassed most of the Lizard sites but returned early back home (as Dan had to find a suit, lol! Starting at Hayle Kimbro, we accidentally flushed 1 Snipe. Nothing else in the area) then moved on to Lizard Point for a short seawatch. There were good numbers (but a poor variety) of seabirds flying west, including Guillemots. 90% sum plum now), Gannets. But only the occasional Razorbill. Thanks a...

Samuel Birding: February 2015

http://samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Friday, 27 February 2015. Biking Birder visits Falmouth! Had a great time meeting Gary Prescott (the Biking Birder) on his travels through Falmouth! A great guy attempting to break the record for birds seen in Britain during the course of one year solely by bike and foot! With no initial sign of the LtDuck! Thankfully, after several more minutes of scanning there was a sigh of relief when the 1st win Long-tailed Duck. Flew in and landed in its usual favoured corner. In fact, this was my first time I ...

Samuel Birding: April 2015

http://samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, 11 April 2015. Back in Herts (30th March-10th April). And most of the other usual stuff. Highlights from the car journey included 4 Ravens. And 5 Roe Deer. The bird list for the full journey totalled over 30 species despite poor weather and darkness falling). Back in Kings Langley now and have been patching and mothing regularly again. My first day back greeted me with my first Swallow. Of the spring flying around the KL fisheries before moving north. 8 Red Kites. It checked the coast was clear...

Samuel Birding: August 2014

http://samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Friday, 29 August 2014. Catch up (13th July-29th August). Well well well, here's my sneaky attempt to catch up on over a months deficit in blog posts. I do have an excuse though. I've been awake for nearly 20 hours per day doing data collection for my dissertation with barely any internet access so I've unceremoniously clumped all my casual sightings into one long post. Best not ask for an exact dates and accounts as I've forgotten the majority but here goes. Singing from the cornfield. The rest of the m...

Samuel Birding: Life and Birding (11th April-2nd June)

http://samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2015/06/life-and-birding-11th-april-2nd-june.html

Thursday, 11 June 2015. Life and Birding (11th April-2nd June). After many years of education and academia I am finally left to my own devices. Thanks to the huge support from my loving family and friends I've wound my way through these beginning stages of life and now find myself graduating in BSc Environmental Science, give it another few years to stew and I wonder what'll be on the horizon then. In the sheep fields near Middle Path Farm. Flew over and Common Terns were hawking over the water. We d...

Samuel Birding: July 2014

http://samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, 12 July 2014. Been mothing quite a lot recently, take a quick peek at my other blog for some equally cool stuff! Http:/ samuelmothing.blogspot.co.uk/. Another stupid pun for a title *sigh*. That had been reported earlier (albeit rather distantly and through some heat haze) but Sh4rpy managed to pick one up at a closer range providing decent views as it fed at the waters edge. It took a little more searching but I did eventually pick out the adult Little Gull. And an adult Mediterranean Gull.
