Why an Apple Watch that costs tens of thousands of dollars ? | Strange Devices
https://strangedevices.wordpress.com/2015/04/13/why-an-apple-watch-cost-tems-of-thousands-of-dollars
Why an Apple Watch that costs tens of thousands of dollars? On many online forums people are asking how Apple can justify an item that will last maybe two years that costs as much as a car. The answer is “Anchoring and the contrast principle”. We can not help ourselves – the stupidly expensive watch makes the cheapest one look cheap (which it is not). The Middle priced one has the same effect of people looking for value. Https:/ www.brocku.ca/MeadProject/Sherif/Sherif 1958b.html. Feed for this Entry.
October | 2009 | Strange Devices
https://strangedevices.wordpress.com/2009/10
Archive for October, 2009. Long time no see! It has been quite a while, and I have been up to lots of interesting things, mostly under NDA! Journalism has been sadly low on my priorities. Once a couple of public launches are out of the way I will have more to say on that. In the mean time, here are some thoughts on varnish. In varnish to composite fragments dynamically assembled by a set of google appliances with elements that change less often. Why an Apple Watch that costs tens of thousands of dollars?

Not Drowning, Waving | Strange Devices
https://strangedevices.wordpress.com/2009/06/22/not-drowning-waving
Not Drowning, Waving. I spent some time with the good folks at Google Sydney and a heap of fun Australian developers exploring Googles new “wave” technology. In short is pretty cool, an already neat GUI wrapping some serious back-end firepower to creat a collaborative environment that merges Realtime Publishing, Chat and Email. After a morning briefing on the tech, I Spent my afternoon with fellow Python lover Carlo Piva ( http:/ www.linkedin.com/pub/carlo-piva/7/260/33b. To be rude or racist🙂. 8220;...

scribd – treasure chest or pirates cave? | Electric Words
https://electricwords.wordpress.com/2008/10/08/scribd-treasure-chest-or-pirates-cave
Scribd – treasure chest or pirates cave? My first reaction to scribd. Now don’t get me wrong – I think there is a place for a youtube for ebooks, but the categorisation in this site is bizarre – for example though there is a sci-fi tag, there is no sci-fi category under literature. So play, and tell me what you think! Responses to “scribd – treasure chest or pirates cave? Feed for this Entry. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Author Archive for Jeremy Kelaher. Read about ion shield for future space explorers. Has lots of great papers from e-journals, including a top article here. About a proposed ion shield for space travelers. This would replace the bulky shielding being used today. Not a new idea to SCFI fans mind – ion shields of this kind have made an appearence on the big screen in films like Mission to Mars. You have to be quick with this site – stuff is free for a limited time only. If you want it, get it here. There i...

More Creative Commons Goodness – Star Dragon by Mike Brotherton. Tags: hard SF free. Hard SF seems to be where creative commons has some of its strongest proponents, and here is another one tht I am reading on my iREx right now. The idea of star inhabiting life has been around for a while, notably in David Brin’s “Sundiver”. Its got all the hard SF goodness – time dialation effects, AI’s, nutty humans on dangerous missionas. IRex Iliad – mid term report | Electric Words
https://electricwords.wordpress.com/2008/10/17/irex-iliad-mid-term-report
IRex Iliad – mid term report. So I have had my iliad for two months now, and have passed through inital enthusiasm (ebook leeching party! Through getting distracted by a newer toy (iphone) and into day to day use. Basically, great. The e-paper screen delivers as promised – it really is as good as a pulp paperback, though nowhere as good as a quality printed book. I have yet to figure out what the delivery service is for – other than one software patch nothing of any use has appeared. Feed for this Entry.
Free Culture, free e-book for some | Electric Words
https://electricwords.wordpress.com/2008/09/30/free-culture-free-e-book-for-some
Free Culture, free e-book for some. Here is a nice one – a full length non-fiction that is actually an OK read for nothing. The book tries to give a balenced view of the whole “IP Cops” vs “content robbers” debate, arguing that if the cops win, then content will suffer. So grab the pdf (which has a creative commons licence). It is a little ironic, however, that amazon kindle users must pay for it, and that the version they get has DRM! Iphone ebooks – is it OK to pay for public domain books if they look purdy? | Electric Words
https://electricwords.wordpress.com/2008/11/05/iphone-ebooks-is-it-ok-to-pay-for-public-domain-books-if-they-look-purdy
Iphone ebooks – is it OK to pay for public domain books if they look purdy? The lastest e-book available on the apple app store for a couple of bucks gives you 11 public domain books presented in a very purdy way. All of which begs a question – why pay even 3 bucks for e-books you can get for free? Sure the interface is nice, and the formatting looks good, but this strikes me as a return to the bad old days given that items purchased on the store are DRMed and only work on one device. We've been working our way through the content gathered during our epic and ill-fated road trip, and in this update we present to you all of the weirdness we collected in Idaho, the land of Famous Potatoes! As a general rule, we don't investigate private residences (though there have been exception...
