Wongderful Adventures in Hopenhagen

If the Vietnam War was the issue of our parents' generation, climate change is the issue of our generation. Without a doubt, we will be grappling with the complexities of climate change for the rest of our lives. The climate change movement has swept across the world, culminating this December. The UN's Climate Change Conference (COP15) brought together 45 000 registered participants including 115 heads of state. I was lucky enough to be a tiny part of it. This is my experience.

Wongderful Adventures in Hopenhagen: A Day on the Outside

http://sue-lin.blogspot.com/2010/01/day-on-outside.html

A Day on the Outside. Wednesday 17 December 2009. I slept in this morning knowing that I wouldn't have a pass to get in! Today was the big day for protestors, particularly as many of the NGOs were locked out and thus perhaps had more time on their hands. We heard Brendan Mackey and Jennie Gould from the ANU speak. We are very fortunate to hear from leading experts in their fields! One of the posters on the wall at Klimaforum. Klimaforum is the People's Forum during COP15. By the time I went, it h...I met...

And the Conference of the Youth continues! Conference of the Youth Group Photo! Courtesy of Helena Evoxic). Sunday, 6 December 2009. Today was the second day of the COY. There were two really informative workshops in the morning on LULUCF and REDD which I attended. I found out about the youth forest movement which has strong links with the Ecosystems Coalition and advocates for fair and effective REDD and LULUCF regulations. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Young and Future Generations Day (aka YuFuGe). It's Youth and Future Generations Day today! Thursday 10 December 2009. Youth and Future Generations Day (YuFuGe) celebrates the role of youth in the UNFCCC process, particularly as this is the first time youth have an official constituency within the UNFCCC. The panellists of the Role of Education Side Event. Playing my little bit! I was the designated microphone runner for the first YuFuGe event. Ruchie, from India, spoke about her story as a young person ...

Wongderful Adventures in Hopenhagen: COP15 By Numbers

http://sue-lin.blogspot.com/2010/01/cop15-by-numbers.html

This was taken from Scanorama – the Scandinavian Airlines Magazine 12/01: Editor in Chief Per Olsson. Special Advertising Supplement COP15: Editor Jorgen Hog. I read it on the plane from Copenhagen to Paris. I think it provides a good overview of COP15. Bella Center – 76 000 square metres (including four newly-built pavilions providing an extra 10 000 square metres). IT – 2400 PCs and 700km of cables. Security – Approximately 6000 of Denmark's 11 000 police will be involved with the COP. We can change&#4...

Wongderful Adventures in Hopenhagen: Learning with the IARU

http://sue-lin.blogspot.com/2010/01/learning-with-iaru.html

Learning with the IARU. Tuesday 8 December 2009. Today I headed off from Sleep-In Heaven to meet ANU at the Cabinn Metro. We are living in a very convenient location, just one metro stop away from the Bella Centre where COP15 is being held. We jumped back onto the Metro to Forum (which was where I had come from! And went to the life science campus of the University of Copenhagen. My group collaborating over initial proposals. Promoting low carbon universities around the world. Global level: collaborative...

With passion comes determination. Trying to live a simple life amidst the complexity of it trying to succeed in differentiation rather than adaptation. Wednesday, April 02, 2008. Monday, 31 October 2016. Tha Glory of the Mundane from Siena. Immediately after boasting that hadn't seen a single dog turd, I did see one. But it was very dainty. I did see massive frescos too. Siena has some of the earliest secular frescos apparently. It's a relief, because with crucifixion after crucifixion after crucifixion one does begin to feel one can have too much of a good thing. For the First Responders. Good Government is reflected in an attractive townscape showing girls dancing to a golden t...

Living and Learning

Musings about living life and learning at home in Japan. Thursday, April 3, 2014. If there's one thing that most people associate with Japan, it must be cherry blossoms. Well, that and sushi, of course! Our first stop this year was Iwatsuki Castle Ruins Park, about a twenty minute drive from our house. There are no actual ruins of the castle to see as far as we've been able to discover, but there are - as Spanky so earnestly exclaimed - "piles" of cherry trees! Photo credit: Miss Moppet. But now, this li...
