1971 Volvo 1800E Restoration: October 2009
http://mkjtang.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
1971 Volvo 1800E Restoration. Saturday, October 31, 2009. Once the fan shroud was out of the way though, it was a matter of removing the 2 bolts securing the radiator, detaching the hoses, and pulling the radiator from the engine bay. With the radiator out of the way, and easy access to fan, I'm planning to remove that too to have it repainted. "One thing leads to another" - that's the theme here! At this rate the Volvo will be out of commission for weeks. Sunday, October 25, 2009. Is This a Rat's Nest?

1971 Volvo 1800E Restoration: June 2009
http://mkjtang.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
1971 Volvo 1800E Restoration. Thursday, June 25, 2009. The Other Woman . Parked in the driveway of the previous owner, these are the first photos taken of the 1971 Volvo 1800E as I found it. The first thing I noticed was that the car was sitting way lower than it's stock height, and it left me wondering if the previous owner had installed lowering springs to decrease the ride's height. Turn's out, the tires just need air . lot's of it! Test drive - The car started up fine (no puff of black smoke), the en...

SIX FIVE BRICK: Clutch slave.
http://65brick.blogspot.com/2009/04/clutch-slave.html
1965 Volvo 122S "Amazon". Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Back in August last year, my clutch slave sprung a leak. It happened after I topped off the fluid - maybe the new fluid reacted with the old and eroded the seals? Perhaps some sediment got forced through the system? Replacing the slave cylinder seals was a pretty straightforward task. The hardest part was getting the right rebuild kit: there are two cylinder bore sizes common to Amazons - 3/4" and 13/16". Both are available from Swedish Treasures.

In the popular 60s TV Show The Saint, the classic image of Simon Templar (played by Roger Moore) driving his vintage white Volvo P1800 sports car endures even today. On this blog, Ill attempt to document my experiences with the restoration of my 1971 Volvo 1800E. No, Ive not done this before . 1971 Volvo 1800E Restoration. Saturday, July 25, 2009. Step 1: Remove Cat. Step 2: Remove Seats. Step 3: Remove Seat Mounts. This is what 38 years of gunk looks like! Upon removing the seats, I discovered the condition the seat mounts were in! Step 4: Recondition Seat Mounts. A couple of episodes of lion chasing antelope on the Discovery channel and 4 beers later, and the seat mounts were looking a whole lot better. The leather feels fresh and softer to the touch after application. Although difficult...

1971 Volvo 1800E Restoration: November 2009
http://mkjtang.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
1971 Volvo 1800E Restoration. Sunday, November 29, 2009. Was not a rewarding experience! In practice, I found that it does not "adhere" to cured POR-15 . even after sanding the POR-15 finish! In addition, I had to build on whatever little of the first coat that did manage to adhere to the POR-15 finish with a second, and third coat . with 12 hours of drying time between coats! What a bloody waste of time! A primer for the primer? Folds in Half For Dipping:. A Few Twists to Wring Out Paint:. I finally hav...

1971 Volvo 1800E Restoration. Saturday, August 22, 2009. It's funny guys . as kids, we used to remove the reflectors from our brand new bicycles because they looked dorky. Now, I find myself putting back the reflectors on my car because they look retro cool! So anyways, round rear reflectors were MIA from my Volvo. I didn't even realize that any were supposed to be there (they're an accessory) until I saw some photos on the web of 1800s with them . and of course I had to have them! Sunday, August 16, 2009.

SIX FIVE BRICK: July 2010
http://65brick.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
1965 Volvo 122S "Amazon". Thursday, July 8, 2010. After rebushing the carbs. Id gotten to a point where the Amazon was in pretty good order mechanically. The body on the other hand. well, a trailer queen she is not. For a variety of reasons, Ive been putting off body work for a while. First off, body work involves a lot of dusty sanding, noisy grinding and banging, and spraying of smelly, noxious chemicals. Work that isnt terribly conducive to being performed in a backyard.
