Tales from the other side of the stethoscope

Tales from the other side of the stethoscope. Monday, June 16, 2014. Healing my keloid scar. At my most recent visit, I was ready. I asked for the referral to the plastic surgeon and he readily agreed. The middle 2/3's is perfect! If it could all have looked like this I would have been very happy! I am terrified, but he promised it would get rid of the itching, so I am going to try. Apparently it will flatten out the keloid, and minimize the redness. It will not make the scar go away (obviously),...I've ...

Tales from the other side of the stethoscope: October 2011

http://talesfromtheothersideofthestethoscope.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Tales from the other side of the stethoscope. Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Adlerian principles for children. It is rare that we have a big discipline issue with our kids, specifically with Noah. He is, by nature, fair and "unreasonably reasonable" for a 3 year old. Since his surgery, we cut him a bit of slack and backed off our parenting a bit with him since he had enough going on. This was also recommended by our cardiac team as children tend to regress behaviourally during these tough times. The four g...

Tales from the other side of the stethoscope. Wednesday, June 12, 2013. I can't seem to catch a break! I spend a large portion of my time at specialists either for myself or for Noah. Noah himself recently had his 5 year well-child checkup at the paediatrician, his cardiac appointment (which thankfully went very well! Gynaecologist, gastroenterologist (did I mention I also have pre-cancerous polyps? And now an endocrinologist. I have more specialists than my elderly grandmother! I have also noticed since...

Tales from the other side of the stethoscope. Monday, September 3, 2012. Learning the art of boredom.er.relaxing. To be fair, the first month was spent in hospital, the second month was filled with narcotic hazes and memory loss, now I am into month three and I'm getting bored. I don't have the energy yet to do much walking and I'm on drugs that make me susceptible to harsh burns if I'm outdoors. So I spend 90% of my time indoors and it is rough. How do I spend my time? Read (I have no attention span for...

Tales from the other side of the stethoscope: Chapter 2

http://talesfromtheothersideofthestethoscope.blogspot.com/2013/01/chapter-2.html

Tales from the other side of the stethoscope. Monday, January 21, 2013. I am now 6 months into my recovery. I have been doing ok, but I have recently been through a battery of tests in a new complication. I thought I would share the journey, as I always do. At the CT scan, I told the technician: "This is my last CT scan! I have had two in the past 6 months! I was particularly worried about them causing cancer given one CT scan is like having a year's worth of x-rays). So now.what do I know? I just know t...

We had a wonderful time.the weather was great, the fishing was fantastic, and the food was amazing as always. It's always nice to spend time with the family and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Here are just a few photos from our recent trip. I love summer. It paid off because Connor caught two fish and he didn't fish for very long. Fishing and lovin' it! First on ...

Thursday, September 27, 2012. The Coliseum and The Roman Forum. Date: August 11th, 2012. Itinerary: Rome, Italy. Happy 5th Anniversary to us! This was a day we were very much looking forward to.what better way to spend a special anniversary than touring the famous Colloseum and the Roman Forum! We spent the extra money on the upgraded tour with access to the underground area and the upper tiers. It was well worth the cost and the tour was very interesting. A Sophisticated Mommy: Notes from the IT Summit

Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Notes from the IT Summit. What kids love that helps them learn:. People like three to nineteen choices in life. Checklist for good generative topics. Does it pass the “so what? Is it epic and big scale, not tiny and “fake”? Does it cover more than just one curriculum subject or topic, or have four or more ways of solving it? Does it spark natural curiosity? Is there enough potential material in which learners can immerse themselves? Think of as many titles as possible.

A Sophisticated Mommy: Choo Choo! All aboard the holiday train!

http://asophisticatedmommy.blogspot.com/2010/12/choo-choo-all-aboard-holiday-train.html

Monday, December 6, 2010. All aboard the holiday train! I think this picture is self-explanatory. It was this year although I doubt we'll go next year unless it's a bit warmer. If you are wondering when it comes to your city, there's a schedule of the CPR's website. It's worth a trip to check it out and make a donation to your local food bank. Mommy and Aleena all bundled up! A kind stranger took this family photo. A nice view of the Christmas lights on the train cars. December 6, 2010 at 9:54 PM. Aleena...

A Sophisticated Mommy: RCMP Royal Road Race - A great day!

http://asophisticatedmommy.blogspot.com/2013/05/rcmp-royal-road-race-great-day.html

Friday, May 17, 2013. RCMP Royal Road Race - A great day! Last Saturday, I participated in the Royal Road Race for the first time. It's a 10 km race around the RCMP barracks in Regina and it was an awesome family experience. As soon as we got there, we were greeted by the RCMP bagpipers and the kids had a chance to meet Safety Bear which they loved. It was absolutely wonderful all around and even the weather co-operated for once. Also, thanks to Sawatzky Studios for the lovely memories of a fun day!

A Sophisticated Mommy: Yummy Apple, Strawberry and Rhubarb Crisp

http://asophisticatedmommy.blogspot.com/2011/08/yummy-apple-strawberry-and-rhubarb.html

Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Yummy Apple, Strawberry and Rhubarb Crisp. It's delicious on its own as well. I always double this recipe because we manage to gobble it up really quickly. It's not that hard to make but I would rather just get through coring, peeling and slicing the apples at one time rather than a couple times. It's not my favourite thing to do. Here's the recipe. It's another recipe from the LooneySpoons cookbook by Janet and Greta Podleski. Apple, Strawberry and Rhubarb Crisp. I use frozen sl...

A Sophisticated Mommy: Introducing Darling Dudz!

Sunday, February 6, 2011. I also came up with Trendy Threads and Adorable Duds but they didn't make the cut for a few reasons. It's hard to find a name that is actually unique or different these days. It seems like everything is already taken. So I picked a name and went ahead and designed a simple logo. I have to say that I am quite proud of how it turned out! If you or anyone you know might be interested in checking out my new little online shop, feel free to add Darling Dudz. A Sophisticated Mommy: Skor Shortbread Cookies

http://asophisticatedmommy.blogspot.com/2010/12/skor-shortbread-cookies.html

Wednesday, December 15, 2010. So I've decided that chocolate bars and cookies are clearly a winning combination. To stick with a good thing, I tried the Shortbread Meltaway recipe from the Robin Hood website. Which uses Skor toffee bits. Thanks to Corri for letting me know about this recipe! Unsalted butter, softened. ROBIN HOOD All Purpose Flour. PREHEAT oven to 350ºF (180ºC). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. Martha whipped up the dough in no time at all. The cookie dough rolled up easily. Try t...

Tales From the Onion. Thursday, August 19, 2010. SQL Server Identity Insert Without Values. CREATE TABLE dbo.ShadowTable. NextKey INT IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL. INSERT INTO dbo.ShadowTable. But I got the following error message:. Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1. Incorrect syntax near 'ShadowTable'. This was an interesting problem to have. Tales From the Other End of the Horse

Tales From the Other End of the Horse. Wednesday, June 19, 2013. It's been a long time. So much has happened in the last 6 months, I really wish now that I had made more of an effort to write it down. Jan 2012 - I started my last semester at Texas A&M student teaching math in a fourth grade classroom in Madisonville, TX that was about an hour away.  Everyday, M-F for 12 weeks.  That was torturous, between the amount of time I spent on the driving and the insane road construction going on. I am officially...

Tales from the Other Side

Tales from the Other Side. Thursday, December 29, 2016. Briant and I got to enjoy everything again when we volunteered to help usher in the visitors' center a few days after Christmas. We both commented that it was probably one of our favorite volunteer service opportunities that we've ever had! We got to the temple just before the sun had completely set so I quickly grabbed some pics while the sky was still light and had some sunset color on the horizon and then had fun taking pics in the dark. Yes, the sign says "August 7th," but truthfully I didn't remember about Barrett's monthly picture until last night. I guess I was so distracted by work and Britton's party that it completely slipped my mind. But, I guarantee you that Barrett went through no major changes since August 7th, so the picture and today's info still ring true. First tomato out of the garden!
