Small changes can make a big difference!
December | 2014 | teachertweaks
https://teachertweaks.wordpress.com/2014/12
Small changes can make a big difference! Archive December, 2014. So what were last year’s wishes? 1 To become more confident dealing with the more challenging students at school. This has been a really steep learning curve for me. I am not naturally ‘strict’ and I don’t have a good shouty voice – so I have to play to my strengths, which are (I think) that I grew up in the area, I was a naughty student and it takes a lot to shock me! 4 To work more closely with reluctant members of staff. Hmm… IR...

Small changes can make a big difference! Getting better but are we good enough? Last week my school underwent a two day review by our local authority with the remit of finding any last minute issues as we await our imminent Ofsted inspection. Part of me felt a tad sceptical about undergoing a review; essentially, my thoughts were ‘Is it worth getting people stressed out to tell us what we already know? So what were our takeaways from the review? Data is important but you need to tell the story. Anything ...

#EducationFest 2015: a feast of pedagogical delights! | teachertweaks

Small changes can make a big difference! EducationFest 2015: a feast of pedagogical delights! I shouldn’t really have been there. After all, how could I justify taking two days off school to attend a jolly at Wellington College? For the record, Wellington College is Hogwarts without the wizards. Luckily, my head decided I was allowed two days out for good behaviour and as a present for the publication of our first book. My highlights of the festival. Things that have stuck with me over the weekend….
Ofsted preparation and workload: can teachers working in an RI school have a manageable workload with a school inspection looming? | teachertweaks

Small changes can make a big difference! Ofsted preparation and workload: can teachers working in an RI school have a manageable workload with a school inspection looming? Aren’t we scaring ourselves by going overboard like this? This week I’ve been thinking about the rest of our staff. If I’m feeling like this, then how on earth is everyone else feeling? And so the little piece of paper stays on the board accompanied with a plaintive murmur ‘It’ll be ok once Ofsted have gone’. You see, with all this ext...

A dame and an inspector | Reach For The Moon

Reach For The Moon. Teaching, Learning, Living. September 10, 2015. A dame and an inspector. The core principles they live by are – Trust, Co-agency and Inclusion. It seems so obvious, and actually much of what she spoke of rang true to my colleagues and me, affirming the stuff we do ourselves. But the passion with which she spoke reignited the whole room. The children that we watched from Wroxham, warmed our souls and inspired us to put dialogue back in the driving seat of learning. All this linked purp...
One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich | Evolutio

Leading, learning and teaching. March 14, 2013. One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich. The lessons are everywhere, and it is this reflection which creates the magic of the novel. I shall never complain about the cold or what I have to eat again, never. This entry was posted in book review. And tagged book review. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Reach For The Moon. Teaching, Learning, Living. Monthly Archives: April 2015. April 6, 2015. Yes, it is Easter Monday, and my Mum’s birthday and the holidays. And yes, as usual I am thinking about school! To be fair my Mum has gone out while I type this so I don’t feel am ignoring her, and the work I’ve done has been through play with the kids so maybe it doesn’t count. I spent an hour on my first attempt and as you can see from the picture at the top it is spectacularly rubbish! What do you think? I may...

Reach For The Moon. Teaching, Learning, Living. December 31, 2015. In late August I was approached to help organise a TedX event in Norwich. This is coming to fruition in March and I am both honoured and excited to be a part of it. I have started eating clean and doing more exercise, results yet to be where I want them but half a stone and 15 inches down with added biceps is a good start! 2015 was very tough for personal reasons but things have improved for my family and I feel blessed we are all healthy.

Reach For The Moon. Teaching, Learning, Living. Monthly Archives: February 2016. February 28, 2016. The aliens have landed. Or more realistically, were dug up! Half term Friday was spent digging a ‘spaceship’ into our school building site, testing out sounds and interviewing builders in preparation for our STEAM week. The fabulous DJ from our local radio station organised a podcast of a fake news report for us to play in the Monday morning as the kids came into school. A friendly, local am dram actor...

Vision (or where we’re going) | Evolutio
https://minerva.wordpress.com/2014/07/21/vision-or-where-were-going
Leading, learning and teaching. July 21, 2014. Vision (or where we’re going). It all starts with the vision. Where do we see ourselves as a learning community in a year? I have no evidence apart from the anecdotal for what I am about to say which in itself means that I must quantify it more. How can we replicate this recipe for success at A Level across the school without losing the individual teacher’s skills and talents in their own subject? This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Lord of the Flies. | Evolutio
https://minerva.wordpress.com/2013/02/23/lord-of-the-flies
Leading, learning and teaching. February 23, 2013. Lord of the Flies. It starts innocuously enough with a tale of shipwreck and a group of boys. How innocent that first sentence sounds, but as the disappearences and the battle for hierarchy take over, the book descends into anarchy and danger. Reading this was much like I imagine playing Russian roulette would be; a dichotomy between the ultimate sign which releases tension and the eternal build up to it. This entry was posted in book review. Mrs E'...
So here it starts… | Evolutio

Leading, learning and teaching. February 22, 2013. So here it starts…. I don’t read enough, and I certainly don’t read enough of the ‘right stuff.’ As an English teacher, and one who takes my vocation (yes, I did use that word) seriously, I believe I need to stay one step ahead, and to remind myself of the wonderful ways authors manage to manipulate words. Mental Scribbles of a Filipino Educator. Jornada Mundial Juventud – Madrid 2011. Common Sense School Leadership. I don’t have a Masters degree in Educational Management or Leadership or any similar-sounding degree, but I would like to think that I have developed my management style by experience and by common sense. A leader’s goal is to mentor his/her subordinates to be better than him/her. A leader has to constantly give feedback without sugar coating. Constantly receive and demand feedback from them.
