Adventures in teaching English composition. Monthly Archives: March 2015. March 28, 2015. My uncle, Jim, died suddenly this past week. Adventures in teaching English composition. Welcome to the Fall →. And Now It Is Summer. June 9, 2015. I haven’t blogged for a while. I got busy and lost track of time. This is what has been going on:. I have a new job, which I’ve already talked a lot about. It’s wonderful. I could not be happier working there. The people are fantastic, the students are great, and I love my coworkers. Our meetings are fun and supportive! I completed the literary criticism class. Yay! Our major trip this summer is to Yell...

Teaching Philosophy | Small Changes

Adventures in teaching English composition. Druckman presents the idea of rhetorical framing as it applies to the news and politics, and I present the idea to my students in regards to how they consume those ideas. When we read a piece together in class, we ask the questions: who is writing this piece? What might be his or her motivation for writing this piece? What motivation might the publication have for publishing this piece? Is there any language in this piece that indicates a bias? Create a free we...

nerdy language dilemma for this postcolonial researcher – pequeña pero matona

https://lynkini.wordpress.com/2014/02/06/nerdy-language-dilemma

Hispanophile. heavy lifter. profe de inglés. tackling the terrifying, everyday. Nerdy language dilemma for this postcolonial researcher. February 6, 2014. I tend to think ahead too much, especially now that I’m away from university research/teaching life for the first time in a very long time and have far fewer deadlines to juggle. And although my Spanish still seems to be absolute. And where, departmentally, do you “put” this person? I don’t know either. That just means I have a lot more work ahead of me.

Composting: So Many Options, So Few Rules | Sustainability...and beyond

https://jennifercarlile17.wordpress.com/2014/03/29/composting-so-many-options-so-few-rules

March 29, 2014. Composting: So Many Options, So Few Rules. Composting is easy, produces concrete benefits (excellent compost and fresher smelling garbage cans), and helps protect your sewer/septic system. Apartment-dwellers and homeowners alike can compost. There are just a few basic rules to follow when composting. Compost vegetable scraps, egg shells (but not eggs), coffee grounds/used tea bags, and even newspaper (but shred it first). DO NOT compost meat, bones, animal fats. Buy a ready-made composter...

One of My FAVORITE Things in the WHOLE WORLD! | Teachin' Gremlins

Teachin’ Humor, Teachin’ Tips, and Teachin’ Resources. One of My FAVORITE Things in the WHOLE WORLD! July 13, 2014. Okay, enough people have asked me about this, so I decided to write a post about it! Last night, I attended a get-together at a friend’s home. I was helping set up as the first guests arrived, and she asked me to get some music going. So, I whipped this out of my purse:. After that, I’m pretty sure everyone there inquired about it at different times. I bought my Shoqbox. Again, I keep my ph...

Teaching Reno | Education blog on teaching, learning and assessment

Education blog on teaching, learning and assessment. Mathman (Or the Unexpected Virtue of Numbers). March 4, 2015. View all 2 comments. We are all English and Maths teachers now. The pressure is on and we can no longer just be specialists in our chosen subject because as educators we must promote literacy and numeracy as part of our daily teaching. But why does this strike fear into the hearts of teachers and students alike? But why are so many people actually scared of mathematics? He made me realise th...

Small Changes | adventures in teaching English composition

Adventures in teaching English composition. May 2, 2016. This weekend, I worked a lot, but in my garden and not grading. I put in a drip line for my garden. I have about 2/3 of it done, and it works! In the remaining rows, I am going to plant more collards, okra, Brussels sprouts, sunflowers, radishes and cucumbers. All in all, I am hoping to have a booming garden this year. We shall see! March 26, 2016. Had a fantastic series on this recently. I was very irritated at the caucus when the mayor of Boi...
