竹南區竹南鎮公所。同年，實施地方自治，里鄰長、鎮民代表由公民選舉產生，鎮長由鎮民代表選出。1950年縣治行政區域劃分後始改為 苗栗縣. 毗鄰；南隔中港溪與造橋鄉、 後龍鎮. 香山區連接；西臨台灣海峽。形如扁莆，面積37.5592平方公里。東端是頂埔里；北端是公義里；最西邊是海口里；南端是公館里。全鎮共有23里，443鄰。 鎮內有一○二．四五公尺的尖筆山，鳥瞰竹南及頭份。如以尖筆山為基點，向東迂迴緩下的山谷，即橫居著公義里，山間畫有鹿廚坑、深湖（係公義路台124線以西）及鳳梨坑（公義路以東），尖筆山以西的台地，已變成本鎮最具開發價值的富麗農村，可作特定區，又能供作工業區，其面積約二百公頃以上。 尖筆山以南的平地，就是大埔平原，雖屬平坦，但海拔仍約有三○公尺，因大埔圳的完成，形成了本鎮另一富有生產力的米倉地帶。尖筆山腹則有示範公墓，它如都市計畫般井然有序，公墓公園化，殊成另一風格。 訂閱： 文章 (Atom).
