Review: Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich, & A Discussion on Postmodernism | The Blue Bookcase
http://thebluebookcase.blogspot.com/2011/10/review-love-medicine-by-louise-erdrich.html
The book review blog for bookish people. Friday, October 21, 2011. Review: Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich, and A Discussion on Postmodernism. 1983 It was the winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1984. Let's talk about the Postmodern. That Erdrich actually follows the traditional Ojibwe story cycle. Which is pretty freakin cool. One of the main threads that connects each of the characters in this novel is a search for identity - many of the characters are full, half, or part Ojibwe. Th...

The book review blog for bookish people. Sunday, November 6, 2011. Review: The Other Side by E. Thomas Finan. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The writing is excellent, though something about the style seems a little. overthought? Maybe a tad too intentional for my taste? I'm sorry, I know those ideas are vague and unhelpful. Even though the subject matter is generally rooted in real life, these stories felt like stories in a way that I...

Just Jori: September 2010

Sunday, September 19, 2010. I came across a great quote the other day. It is by the beloved Harold B. Lee. He said,. The superior man is spiritual. He exemplifies simplicity. He abhors being conspicuous. He is dedicated to service. Superior people are never bitter. Pessimism is the philosophy of vulgarity. The superior person is clean. His fellowship is refreshing. He is above his pleasures.A superior man is gentle. Superior men are humble-minded. Doesn't this just make you want to be a better person?

Part of the richness of A Universal History of Iniquity.
