Installing Orchids in the Strangler Fig « The Shrub Queen
https://theshrubqueen.wordpress.com/2015/07/22/orchids
Garden Thoughts from Florida's Treasure Coast. Installing Orchids in the Strangler Fig. This is a story I started last year, when I was gifted some Orchids. Orchids Ready for Tree. These Orchids were declared unkillable. If this is true these will be the first Orchids I have ever not killed. I think of Orchids more as a floral arrangement; not something that actually is perennial . So, I followed directions:. Cleared a slightly sunny spot in. Here are the Orchids in place. The idea is you water them ...

Garden Thoughts from Florida's Treasure Coast. Nom de Plume-Brazilian Plume. Brazilian Plume – Justicia carnea. Here are the other things blooming in the garden:. This slideshow requires JavaScript. The Blue Plumbago is the Hydrangea of the tropics and so much easier to grow. That Hibiscus is an old fashioned variety planted by my neighbor’s grandmother on the edge of the property. If I knew what it was I would search for another. This entry was posted in Brazilian Plume. And tagged Brazilian Plume.

Garden Thoughts from Florida's Treasure Coast. Bark for Bark’s Sake – Boots and Strangler Figs. I was looking at trees (perhaps an unfortunate habit) this morning as I walked my dogs and it occurred to me the bark on some of these tropical trees I pass everyday is different from bark in northern climes. Especially Palm Trees, palms do some funky things. Cabbage Palm with Boots. This is a photo of a Strangler Fig reaching down from the Cabbage Palm:. This entry was posted in Florida. Garden Thoughts from Florida's Treasure Coast. Newer posts →. In A Vase on Monday – Grace. This post is called Grace because of the funky purple bowl I used as a container. I have been plotting the flower arrangement for a while waiting for the Bridal Bouquet Frangipani (Plumeria pudica) to need pruning again. The bowl is good sized and it took 10 or so clusters of Frangipani to fill it, I added some buds and foliage of Heliconia (H. psittacorum) then some Asian Sword Fern for green texture. The berries ...

In a Vase on Monday – Just Joey and Bridal Bouquet. December 12, 2016. December 12, 2016. Just Joey is just such a lovely and unusual rose, and although it’s not turning into a big bush, it’s in a tough place beside the driveway, continually battling off the attentions of a purple penstemon on one side and a rosemary on the other. Not to mention the weeds and grasses. Just Joey is such an unusual colour, especially the buds which are almost parchment-like. Check out Rambling in the Garden. Your florals a...

End of Month View. Other People’s Gardens. End of Month View. Other People’s Gardens. 5 December 2016 /. The garden’s fresh flowers are well and truly over, and last week’s offerings from the hedgerows are still decorating the flat; thanks to the fact that lichened sticks and dried seedheads have a rather longer shelf-life than flowers, my arrangements will probably last around the house until the first spring bulbs, with frequent changes of location to keep things looking fresh. Lately – some bush...

Jointed stems with swollen nodes gives this plant its unfortunate name of Gouty Geranium. OK, it does have lanky, gouty legs, but the flowers are beautiful; chartreuse-yellow.
