Kevin's Walk: on comments and "censorship"
http://kevinswalk.blogspot.com/2008/04/on-comments-and-censorship.html
Thursday, April 10, 2008. On comments and "censorship". Saying: I'm not saying I won't tolerate disagreements. Quite to the contrary, I'm keenly interested in hearing different points of view. But disagreements must first pass the tests of. Civility, rationality,. Or they won't be aired. Of free speech; the speaker is. His posters, his signs, his websites and so on are hunted down and eradicated by the censoring party. Censorship is. The same as being responsible for what happens in one's own house.

Kevin's Walk: ten religious questions I hope to ask
http://kevinswalk.blogspot.com/2008/05/ten-religious-questions-i-hope-to-ask.html
Saturday, May 24, 2008. Ten religious questions I hope to ask. I hope to spend a few hours with each set of people I meet, talking about topics related to religious diversity. Among the many questions I hope to ask are these core ten (list subject to revision):. 1 How do you (or how does your tradition) explain the fact of religious diversity? 2 Do you view religious diversity as fundamentally good or bad? Why do you feel that way? Why or why not? What's your opinion of mixed-religion households? 10 Is t...

Kevin's Walk: the Marissa Parks I knew
http://kevinswalk.blogspot.com/2012/03/marissa-parks-i-knew.html
Monday, March 12, 2012. The Marissa Parks I knew. Now, normally I would probably be depressed right now cause I'm getting "old". But today, I am celebrating getting old, and kind of happy about it! I love birthdays, and everything that they involve! I love dressing up, spending time with friends and family, being a princess for a day, taking lots of photos, cake, everything. Marissa, blogging about her 24th birthday on February 18, 2011. From Marissa's very first email to me on February 23, 2011. Convers...

Kevin's Walk: events in a nutshell
http://kevinswalk.blogspot.com/2009/11/events-in-nutshell-i.html
Sunday, November 1, 2009. Events in a nutshell. We eventually learned that the in-tandem radio- and chemotherapy had killed a significant portion of the second mass, which was good news. But the third mass appeared (we think) after the therapeutic regimen was finished. Instead of continuing the standard treatment, which would have been several months of chemo alone, we moved to stronger, second-line therapy. Re: Mom's general condition. And responding by staring at, or turning away from, the questioner.

Phronesisaical: Falling Prey to the Thatcher-Reagan Zeitgeist
http://phronesisaical.blogspot.com/2014/10/falling-prey-to-thatcher-reagan.html
Politics, Philosophy, Fruit. Thursday, October 30, 2014. Falling Prey to the Thatcher-Reagan Zeitgeist. A couple of weeks ago. I wondered if it was possible to say, discuss, think of, a just society because our reference points had moved so far to the right under the influence of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. Thomas Edsall provides an example. What if the notion that a large segment of the electorate is made up of moderates who hunger for centrist compromise is illusory? And I would ask. Seven cho...

Politics, Philosophy, Fruit. Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Bits and Pieces - December 16, 2014. Pretty well represents my feelings about Greenpeace's dumb stunt at Nacza, Peru. They need to pay for the damage they've done. It looks like the South Polar ozone hole is doing a lot more than letting ultraviolet rays in. A magazine can never grant the freedom I've got here. The strategic cost of torture, racism, and bigotry. Norm Ornstein talks candidly about racism in American politics. Russia with its repress...

Phronesisaical: "Dover Beach" Into The New Year
http://phronesisaical.blogspot.com/2014/12/dover-beach-into-new-year.html
Politics, Philosophy, Fruit. Monday, December 29, 2014. Dover Beach" Into The New Year. The Sony hack and later shutdown of the North Korean internet made me think of the last lines of “Dover Beach,”. By Matthew Arnold. That made me think about the rest of the poem. It’s a good way to one year and start the next. Or at least in my quirky way of reading poems. Go read it through to get your impression. I’ll wait. There’s a standard interpretation of the poem. The sea is calm tonight. Of human misery; we.
