Ministry in Steel Toe Shoes. Building the Beloved Community. Rsaquo; Steel Toe Shoes. Steel toe shoes are safety shoes reinforced at the toe to protect feet from falling objects. These were my daily wear as a project manager at my family’s construction company. My shoes remind me of the family I come from, of my history, of who I am. My shoes remind me of the importance of being prepared for unknown and unseen dangers ahead and around. My shoes help keep me grounded, balanced, and moving forward. Our Job...

Committed to freedom, reason and tolerance. Or at least trying to be. Worship should be broad. And deep. But broad. On February 6, 2012. It’s my d. Ay off after FUSE. And I’m supposed to be working on the refresh the Inquirer website. Which I promise I will do more on this evening.) But, I’ve spent an hour or more catching up on blog posts talking about the state of UU-ism (like this. And thinking that British Unitarianism is not like that. At least not for me. On feminine aspects of the divine. Beca...

It’s not all about the inner journey | Live Unitarian-ly

Committed to freedom, reason and tolerance. Or at least trying to be. It’s not all about the inner journey. On July 18, 2011. Day, I travelled over 100 miles (in each direction) to attend a workshop given by Peacebang. Was it worth it? No But then, nor did I expect it to be. It wasn’t at all billed as something worth travelling a hundred miles for. As frequently happens, I found myself disagreeing. Sort of. What does it mean to have a vocation? Worship should be broad. And deep. But broad. Still I am one.

Committed to freedom, reason and tolerance. Or at least trying to be. On June 13, 2011. Over the last few months, there has been some coverage in The Inquirer of the idea that we Unitarians do not do ‘joy’ in our worship. Almost inevitably, this has lead to backlash from others who like our worship just the way it is. I think that misses the point. We do some kinds of worship well:. Traditional non-conformist worship with heterodox Christian theology. Alternative and inclusive communion services. Unitari...

Committed to freedom, reason and tolerance. Or at least trying to be. Recycling as a religious imperative. On September 3, 2010. Recycling in the forest. As I mentioned before. This summer I travelled to the States to attend Opus 2010 the continental Unitarian Universalist young adult conference. One thing that struck me particularly was the general underlying commitment to the environment. People had t-shirts espousing environmental causes and sometimes talked a good talk, but it (probably) wasn’t just ...

Committed to freedom, reason and tolerance. Or at least trying to be. Talking about God – and not god. On October 30, 2010. I was at Buyan. Last month, and we had a Quaker visitor, Mark. He explained to us about Quakers, ran a listening activity and then helped us with a short Quaker meeting for worship. It was all excellent he was a great ambassador for the Religious Society of Friends, and it was a calm, peaceful way to spend the morning. The conversation moved on to whether there’s a similar ten...
