Sesame... What?!?!: July 2008
http://sesamewhat.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Sesame is thought to be one of the oldest spices known to man and is likely the first crop grown for its edible oil. Babylonians used the oil to make sesame cakes, wine, brandy, and toiletries. From as early as 1500 B.C, Egyptians believed sesame to have medicinal powers. What’s more, the famous phrase "Open Sesame". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am currently living and working with MEDA, a North American NGO, as an agricultural research associate in Managua, Nicaragua.

Monday, September 15, 2008. Finding the Beauty of Nicaragua. What a difference a week can make! I've found my new calling! Cattle herding within city limits and horse drawn wagons. but I just wasn't falling for it. When people asked me what I thought of Nicaragua, I would tell them that I liked it. and to be honest, I had nothing substantial to like! I really can't wait until I actually get to go out to do field research. I'm really looking forward to it! Monday, September 8, 2008. Saturday, Lauren and I...

Sesame... What?!?!: October 2008
http://sesamewhat.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 19, 2008. The Adventure I was waiting for? Now that I have officially settled in, the high life of taking taxis everywhere, had to end. In comparison to Canadian taxi prices, or even Canadian transit costs, taking a taxi was less. However, taking local transit is even cheaper! I was prepared for long waits. I was prepared for getting lost. Both seemed pretty guaranteed. I was unsure about what else I would encounter, but was prepared to go with the flow. Each new adventure makes me more g...

Adventures in Aswan: October 2008
http://adventuresinaswan.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Starting to feel like home. Any time you move to a new place you have to expect to feel out of place, out of sorts, and that everything is unfamiliar. Put that together with moving to a foreign country and you add a whole other dimension to the feeling of being an outsider that doesn’t quite belong. One of these things is not like the other? Friday, October 10, 2008. Getting down to business. Thursday, October 2, 2008. Some time under the sun. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). CIDA P...

Sesame... What?!?!: The Adventurous Weekend!
http://sesamewhat.blogspot.com/2008/09/adventurous-weekend.html
Monday, September 8, 2008. This weekend was definitely filled with unusual sights! Saturday, Lauren and I headed to the market by my house with Carolina (the girl I live with). She ended up leading us around, somewhat on parade. This market is unlike others I had seen in the past. The vegetables and meat were sold so close together. the smell of old blood, ripening fruit and other random good swelled together in an unprecedented way! Yesterday, we all packed into the truck for a beach adventure! On the w...

Sesame... What?!?!: The Countdown is On
http://sesamewhat.blogspot.com/2009/01/countdown-is-on.html
Wednesday, January 28, 2009. The Countdown is On. I have learned so many lessons to take me onto the next part of my life. many "marketable skills" that are discussable on CVs mostly. but mostly, I have learned the importance of connections. Where are we without our relationships? What will I miss most about Nicaragua? Very different to our compartmentalized world we live in, in Canada. Nonetheless, I go home with a new perspective on the world, and the interactions we have from day to day. How will ...
