Going the Distance

Training for distance in dog agility. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Anatomy of a Gamble. A FaceBook friend posted this gamble from a recent ASCA trial. She and her dog were the only team to successfully complete the gamble. When I looked at it, I thought getting the correct end of the tunnel had to be next to impossible. However, she answered that several dogs got the correct end of the tunnel, but then either took the AF or failed to take the #4 jump. So, did it work for us? Links to this post. This morning's...

Going the Distance: Taking Stock

http://training4distance.blogspot.com/2014/12/taking-stock.html

Training for distance in dog agility. Monday, December 29, 2014. Almost the end of another year, and a perfect time to take stock of how Willie's training is going. 1 His distance skills are excellent. 2 Jumpers courses are our forte. 3 Great start line stay. 4 Fast and willing agility teammate. 3 Given Willie's AF performances this weekend, I think we should take a break from any running AF training and just stick to a 2o2o performance. Once Willie has an independent 2o2o AF (which he does not at th...

Going the Distance: Just a Little Hustle

http://training4distance.blogspot.com/2015/06/just-little-hustle.html

Training for distance in dog agility. Sunday, June 21, 2015. Just a Little Hustle. Qualifying runs have been eluding Willie and me. So far we have 10 Excellent/Master Standard runs and only 3 Q's. Ex/Mas JWW is even worse. Nine runs and no Q's! Among other things, what was killing us in JWW was being unable to complete a long closing line without incurring a refusal due to a spin. One of the greatest downsides to training alone is trying to improve your handling. Video helps me to see when something ...

Going the Distance: December 2013

http://training4distance.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Training for distance in dog agility. Thursday, December 5, 2013. I was looking for a sequence with a minimal amount of setup work since it is always windy out in the field this time of year. Brrrr. I chose this simple exercise from Linda Mecklenberg's Feb., 2013 column in Clean Run. Never in my wildest dreams did I realize it would give us so many different things to work on with Willie. He took the jump first, which gave us another skill to work on. Are several other choices:. Either side of #4. Plan y...

Going the Distance: A Very Challenging Course

http://training4distance.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-very-challenging-course.html

Training for distance in dog agility. Monday, May 4, 2015. A Very Challenging Course. Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted anything in my blog. I've done most of my analysis in video format and posted it to YouTube. However, a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of running some challenging courses designed by Richard Kurzawa. Friday's JWW course was the most difficult of the courses we ran, and I had the chance to set it up today to see if I could improve my handling choices.

YOU ARE EXCUSED: January 2011

http://youareexcused.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 30, 2011. Are We Having Fun Yet? I looked at Coach's nose this morning and saw pink and red marks on it. My first thought was, "OH NO - not another unpronounceable disease! It turns out it's teeth marks. Careful investigation shows that these teeth marks match Jazz's teeth exactly! The flip side of this ridiculous mess seems to be genuine pack solidarity. Jazz spends the night wherever he wants to and Coach sleeps in his crate. If Coach wants to get up before I do, (did I say if? Another ...

YOU ARE EXCUSED: August 2011

http://youareexcused.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 21, 2011. Life After Knee Surgery. Jazz is still improving, so this is a progress report, not final. We have entered NADAC agility trials and Jazz finished his novice tunnelers and open standard titles since the middle of May. DoG bless NADAC! Those of you with dogs who are currently in rehab or living "life after" any kind of surgery - hang in there. It is so rewarding to see your dog gain confidence and strength. Good luck. YOU ARE EXCUSED: April 2010

http://youareexcused.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 30, 2010. I always enter one trial during tax season. My own club's trial is held early in April and it is the very worst time for me to be entering a trial, but it is my own club and I always enter. This year I entered Jazz in novice obedience - with high hopes - and Coach in Rally novice - with no hope. Then again - who asked him to pull a sled? This was at least as bad as any time we have entered the obedience ring. Rats! He was a hoot in the ring. He nearly knocked the easel down on...

YOU ARE EXCUSED: November 2011

http://youareexcused.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 23, 2011. I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am very thankful for my health and the health of those I love. I am grateful that my sisters are both in this world and that they love me as much as I love them. I am grateful for my parents and my daughter. I am thankful that my dogs are well and here with me. I live a very lucky life and I am thankful for it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Other End of the Leash. Less is More (When It Comes to Training).
