Traveling Weaver's Wanderings…. Started as Blog About My Trip to the Tinkuy de Tejedores and now continuing with other adventures in weaving. October 10, 2014. It’s Thursday now I’m again sitting in our rented flat and I’m struck with how strange it is to be writing on my computer, connected to the internet (and thus the world) via wi-fi while in a 300 year old home in an even older city. Here’s a photo of our ceiling that demonstrates this comparison. Another mosaic showing definite Byzantine influence.

Traveling Weaver's Wanderings…. Started as Blog About My Trip to the Tinkuy de Tejedores and now continuing with other adventures in weaving. Finally wi-fi again. Yippee! November 11, 2014. They got us up early to march though an encounter with US Immigration since this is our first contact with US soil. Seemed sort of silly to pass by the officer, flashing our passports and room cards and then we were on our way. Oh well. So here’s the first of my saved postings. The Salute Church at night. I’m starting...

Traveling Weaver's Wanderings…. Started as Blog About My Trip to the Tinkuy de Tejedores and now continuing with other adventures in weaving. From Florence to the Cruise Ship and Beyond. November 11, 2014. Heading to Civitavecchia – the port of Rome. We found ourselves in the same little Chevy Chase village almost stuck between the buildings. I guess that’s the right (and probably only) way after all! We’re on our way – Aboard the Norwegian Epic. – Oct. 22, 2014. Beautiful stained glass window. November ...

Traveling Weaver's Wanderings…. Started as Blog About My Trip to the Tinkuy de Tejedores and now continuing with other adventures in weaving. Can you ever get too much art? November 11, 2014. Sunday Evening, Oct. 26. Leaving Barcelona, Spain. Venice by its very nature and location is a seafaring culture and in the early years had strong ties to the world of Islam. Below is an example of a building with a distinctly Moorish shape to the windows. Our hosts – Marco, Perla, and their kids Bernardo and ...

Musings of a perennial textile neophyte. Posts (Weekly I hope). It’s the simple things. November 10, 2015. 8220;It’s the simple things”. That phrase has been reverberating in my brain since I returned from Guatemala in October. It’s the simple things that made me so happy to be in Guatemala and it’s the simple things that make me happy to be home. Out in a community of basket makers. Sweet babies carried everywhere. What a feast for the eyes, everywhere, even without going to market. Even folks dress...

Musings of a perennial textile neophyte. Posts (Weekly I hope). WARP and cochineal and friendship →. March 31, 2015. A quick post to convince myself I’m still a blogger. Just got back from a medical volunteer stint in Nicaragua. Stayed in an incredible place on the beach. Where they combine running a surf camp with a non-profit that works on community development. Took thrums and old cotton and made baby hats on long plane rides and bus rides to remote villages while I was there. View from the mat. You a...

Musings of a perennial textile neophyte. Posts (Weekly I hope). Polillos : A Weaver’s Dilemma. It’s the simple things →. July 7, 2015. Jodie was a remarkable member of the Golden Gate Weavers who fought against cancer for many years. When there were no more ways to conquer the cancer, she just kept on with her life. She continued weaving. She produced pieces for a guild show. Weeks before her death she joined us at CNCH 2013 in the Sierra Mountains that she loved. And then she was gone. Still, I struggle...
