Travels With My Can

Travels With My Can. Thursday, 1 May 2014. We had got to Zeebrugge with just over an hour in hand so decided to take a look at the beach. Wide sandy beach, a lot of people there on this windy and rainy day as it was a bank holiday (1 May). Difficult to find somewhere to park. A strong gust of wind send café chairs tumbling. Windy, damp, blowy day. The children on the promenade were enjoying it. Wednesday, 30 April 2014. A Flying in Nancy. The heavy rain stopped as we arrived in Nancy. Ndash; we always ea...

Travels With My Can: 02/18/14

http://travelswithmycan.blogspot.com/2014_02_18_archive.html

Travels With My Can. Tuesday, 18 February 2014. Hilary and I visited Huddersfield and Halifax. The reason we went to those two towns was that, if we had ever been to either of them before, we could not remember it. And as with so many places, few people visit as tourists because the locations are not on the itinerary, yet both are full of interest and could be on an itinerary if anyone ever were to draw one up. As no one will. Should need reminding, Huddersfield’s most famous son is . . . But the univers...

Travels With My Can. Friday, 11 April 2014. A Dusty Stroll On the Lungomare. The promenade at Rimini – Friday 11 April 2014. The wind was blowing up dusty sand from the beach while the hotel staff were beginning to open up their beach chalets for the summer season, newly-painted benches being wheelbarrowed across the road in one direction, and heavy weights – used to hold things down a bit in the winter – wheelbarrowed in the other. A Spa and a Immigrant. Rsquo;, I asked. She replied that he did, and...

Travels With My Can. Monday, 7 April 2014. Stage 1: P&O Ferry Hull-Zeebrugge. On the map, south from Zeebrugge looks shorter than south from Rotterdam. In fact there’s not a lot in it, and Hull-Rotterdam has advantages over Hull-Zeebrugge because the ferry is bigger, newer, and does not have to spend what seems like an age negotiating a sea lock in order to get in and out of the harbour. But Hull-Zeebrugge it was, overnight on Monday 7th April 2014. Does Alzheimer’s dull the curiosity? At the adjoining t...

Travels With My Can. Wednesday, 19 February 2014. Dinner in Ricci’s. We ate our dinner in a restaurant in the Dean Clough Mill complex in Halifax, a restaurant called Ricci’s Tapas and Cicchetti. Tapas is Spanish, as many people know, and cicchetti are somewhat equivalent, it’s a Venetian word, cicchetti exist in Italy only in Venice and are somewhat similar to Tapas. So a fusion restaurant. We asked the man about going to see Wainwright’s Folly, which is an elaborate tall chimney built to for...Lsquo;Oh...

Travels With My Can. Monday, 28 April 2014. That we were able to get to our hotel in San Bonifacio this evening had some elements of good fortune about it, as at a service station on the motorway between Rimini and Bologna on the way there I accidentally threw the car key into the waste bin. This came about because we had overstocked on bread at the house. This meant that we decided to buy some cheese and tomatoes to go with it, and eat a picnic lunch on our way north. My Life With Dementia: Caldaista and Other Things

http://my-life-with-dementia.blogspot.com/2015/05/caldaista-and-other-things.html

My Life With Dementia. Friday, 15 May 2015. Caldaista and Other Things. Up fairly promptly for breakfast as the caldaista is due to do his annual service of the gas central heating boiler. All well - and he has now gone. Dave is starting to scrape all the fluffy plaster off the external walls in the living room/kitchen – without bothering to remove or cover anything. We'll be eating flaky plaster for days if I let him continue unchallenged. Friday, May 15, 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

My Life With Dementia: 01/10/14

http://my-life-with-dementia.blogspot.com/2014_01_10_archive.html

My Life With Dementia. Friday, 10 January 2014. Yesterday was my second appointment with Dr W, the psychiatrist who has been interpreting my brain scans. This time the news was not good. I have the early signs of dementia, caused by Alzheimers. My immediate reaction was shock, despite half expecting it, and she immediately pushed a tissue box in my direction, but then she moved on to explain what treatment is available, side effects and prognosis. Would you like a memory pill? Are there side effects?

My Life With Dementia. Monday, 27 January 2014. Yesterday, had a really successful day, making and potting 17 jars of marmalade, as well as clearing up the mess and doing a variety of other household tasks. Went to bed tired and very satisfied with my achievements – achieved without any muddles. However, I had a bad night with very strong sexual feelings and hallucinogenic-type dreams which scared me. However, fine this am. I reckon I am doing OK generally. Monday, January 27, 2014. Travels With My Can.

My Life With Dementia: Baking a Cake

My Life With Dementia. Friday, 24 January 2014. Have now told my cousin, JB, in an email. She seems to have been quite upset. DD asked to tell his sister, which I agreed to. Interested that, since starting the medication (on a very low dose), I have not had any episodes of muddle and panic. Life seems pretty calm and normal. Friday, January 24, 2014. My Life With Dementia. Wednesday, 22 January 2014. Coming Down to Earth. Have come down to earth a bit more now and beginning to feel more able to consider issues and make plans. Have now told KJ in a phone call. She said something like 'Oh no, that's a shame. I've got a friend who is dying of a dreadful illness etc etc.' which I then listened to for ten minutes. Reported this to her father. and he said he didn't think gene therapy could do anything to help her! Wednesday, January 22, 2014.

Travels with my camera in Oz. Photos and words from a roving retiree. December 11, 2016. St Mary’s church. Dog Rocks is a famous hill for photographers with a much photographed tree and I took full advantage. We were also within walking distance of Buckley Falls and had a couple of walks down to the river where there are many walking tracks. Every time we go to the falls we see the herons patiently fishing. Sea pouring off the ledge. Wombeyan Caves and Bungonia. November 17, 2016. Rocks from the quarry.

Travels with my flip flops. Saturday, 8 August 2015. Being a tourist in my home town and summer update . Now that August is upon us, the days are getting noticeably shorter and darkness now falls by 9pm . those hazy days of summer seem few and far between again this year. Granted we have had some beautiful days and a couple of scorchers but mingled in with some not-so-warm days and smatterings of precipitation - so our memories play tricks on us as we recall the perfect summers of our childhood.
