Albuquerque, New Mexico. June 28, 2008. So, remembering the slam and wanting a festival but knowing I couldn’t hack one alone, I approached Susan McAllister of the Harwood Art Center. Her experience on the National Poetry Slam would be invaluable to planning a new poetry festival in Albuquerque and her long history of supporting poetry endeavors ranging from performance to print anthologies has always been inspiring to me. I asked if she’d like to see another poetry festival happen and she said yes.

Albuquerque, New Mexico. Two exhibitions at 516 Arts are part of STIR: A Festival of Words. Both run from September 6 to October 18th, 2008 and both incorporate poetry (see Book Lung). Cautionary Tales: A Visual Dystopia. The artists in this exhibition come to the rescue with a visual silver lining in the dark clouds; a personal message of hope, healing and resuscitation.
