Thoughts of an Uppity Grad: December 2009

http://uppitygrad.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Monday, December 14, 2009. I have reached the beginning of the end of the beginning. In fewer than 48 hours, I will have completed my first set of finals for my first semester of graduate school. And then I will cross my fingers and hope for the best. Despite all of the work I've put into this semester, I still firmly believe that any success or failure can be partially attributed to good, old-fashioned luck. Thanks for reading with me this semester! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad: October 2009

http://uppitygrad.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Sunday, October 25, 2009. Welcome to the preservation station! When I was about 9 years old, one of my favorite books was Lyddie. This week's assigned public history reading was The Lowell Experiment: Public History in a Postindustrial City. By Cathy Stanton. Needless to say, it has replaced Lyddie. As my point of reference for Lowell. Stanton's analysis of public history as conducted at Lowell National Historical Park. Diane Lea also addresses this difficulty. She describ...

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad: Yari's Baby Clothes: Object Description

http://uppitygrad.blogspot.com/2010/09/yaris-baby-clothes-object-description.html

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Yari's Baby Clothes: Object Description. The object I will be examining over the next few weeks is Yari’s baby clothes. This item of clothing belonged to Yari’s daughter, who wore them home from the hospital after her birth. I have not had the opportunity to view this object yet, but I have a written story about the item which facilitates a basic description of the clothing. The baby clothing is a pink “ onesie. Labels: First Person Museum. The ones...

Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Monday, October 11, 2010. Yari's Baby Clothes: Captions. The opening of the new First Person Arts exhibit is quickly approaching! My classmates and I are working on writing individual captions for each object. You can find links to their work here. Caption #1: About Style. Caption #2: About Movement. The practice of swaddling babies led to the development of bodices in the 18th century. Bodices physically restrained infants and were believed to strengthen their backs. ...In 19...

The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind: Cruel and Unusual Amusement

http://theuppitywoman.blogspot.com/2014/02/cruel-and-unusual-amusement.html

The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind. Friday, February 21, 2014. Cruel and Unusual Amusement. I checked. I haven't posted on here for over 6 months. Yeah, yeah . I've been. Guys Get off my back. Let's see . I've moved from my home of 20 years into a lakefront, fixer-upper cottage, I've had a new grandchild and I've turned the corner on my sixth decade. So what prompted my setting down my paintbrush and Aleve and taking this little time-out to return to journaling about the minutiae of my life, the. Just imagin...

The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind: Mower Madness

http://theuppitywoman.blogspot.com/2013/07/mower-madness.html

The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind. Thursday, July 25, 2013. I am fit to be tied. FIT. TO. BE. TIED. Nothing, I mean. Pushes me to this degree of fitness like feeling inept. A sense of ineptitude makes me furious with myself and takes me to the mat in a fraction of a second. And if I anticipate that sense of ineptitude, I'm likely to throw myself on the mat voluntarily and await the inevitable. Then, when the fury descends on me, it's a little like being in a padded room. I can't get the mower started. THAT ...

The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind: Keeping it Simple

http://theuppitywoman.blogspot.com/2013/08/keeping-it-simple.html

The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind. Friday, August 2, 2013. I just found my cell phone in my makeup case. Stuffed right in there beside my mascara and loose powder. What's worse is I knew it would be there. I had spent a big chunk of the evening looking for it in all the logical places - purse, car, desk, bathroom, upstairs, downstairs, pockets, back deck, kitchen counter. No go. So I sat down in front of a mindless television show (a great way to concentrate . on anything. Walk backwards through your mind.

The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind: The Big 3-5 Anniversary Bash

http://theuppitywoman.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-big-3-5-anniversary-bash.html

The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind. Monday, September 10, 2012. The Big 3-5 Anniversary Bash. If you were to say my husband and I are a match made in heaven, you'd get no argument from me. On the other hand, if you were to say ours is a storybook romance, I'd accuse you of reading a lot of Dr. Seuss. Case in point: Our 35th anniversary dinner. But enough background bio, here's what we did to celebrate our 35 years of domestic blisters:. Not far into the process, I noticed I was sweating profusely and develop...

Life of Your Friendly, Neighborhood Geek. The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind. Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Our Side of Paradise. Life of a Twenty-Something. Monday, September 27, 2010. There has been so much happening at school, that I decided to save it up and put it all into one, rather rambling post. Some of these are stories, some of them are observations, and some of them are just plain whining moments. Read on, if you're on board for any of those things. Pretty logical thinking, get me to do what he rea...

Life of Your Friendly, Neighborhood Geek. The Uppity Woman/Piece of Mind. Thoughts of an Uppity Grad. Our Side of Paradise. Life of a Twenty-Something. Tuesday, February 1, 2011. YeahI guess that's what you'd call it.a distinct lack of motivation! I know, I know, not happening! But, it's nice to dream once in awhile. So, today was a snow day! Well more like an inch of ice to be chipped off every surface day, and I thought.Yeah! In the meantime, Tator Tot has become in engaged to a nice woman who I will b...

Travels through history: October 2009

http://stevenhistory.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Friday, October 30, 2009. Through interpretation, understanding; through understanding, appreciation; through appreciation, protection. Freeman Tilden's quote about the importance of interpretation fifty years ago still rings true today. If people do not understand why something is important, they often do not appreciate it, and therefore don't see the need to protect it. Links to this post. Tuesday, October 27, 2009.

Travels through history: September 2010

http://stevenhistory.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Follow me as we explore various issues in Museums, Public History, and American History. Monday, September 27, 2010. Today I am offering my own hypothetical design plan of the First Person Museum exhibit. It will be based on materials produced by First Person Arts. For a base I have used Alice Parman’s “Exhibit Makeovers:. Do-it-yourself Exhibit Planning”, from the AASLH. Every object has many stories hiding just below the surface. History is just another story in this mission). Whenever possible interac...

Shanise’s stuffed rhino originally would have a coat with “Rhinocort” emblazoned on the front. The rhino was a medical promotional toy given free to doctors and hospitals to help sell the drug Rhinocort. This promotional method was voluntarily stopped by the drug industry in 2009, but similar practices remain today. Written by Steven Greenstein. Written by Steven Greenstein. Subscribe to: Po...
