Ellenberg vs. projects. January 28, 2015. Today the students expressed further frustration with Ellenberg’s book. It’s gotten repetitive and boring, apparently! The irony is that many of them say that to get the reading done, they are mostly skimming until they get to a cool part. My impression: they’re interacting with it in a superficial way, which is unsatisfying. And in order to figure out how to do that, I need to engage with the question in a less than superficial way myself. What are my goals?

First test and notebooks. First test and notebooks. February 3, 2015. Calc III Spring 2015. I gave the students their first test last week. We were all nervous about it but they did really well! Looks like I just have a really strong bunch of students. I can live with that. 🙂. On the day I gave the test, I also collected their notebooks. I put 10% of their grade in the syllabus for their notebooks, but I don’t have a good way to quantify how well they’re doing! Ellenberg vs. projects.
