Utila 2008 - Luna De Miel

Friday, April 18, 2008. Oh well. Everything else about our trip worked out better than could be expected, so we really couldn't complain about missing a party. This shack is the travel agency. Our plane. With room enough for 3. Hey Selin, can I fly? View of most of the town. Our house was on the right side of the horseshoe-shaped bay in the upper left hand part of the picture. The beach and shore to the left of town in the above photo. This shows how narrow and flat the island is. Until the next time.

Monday, April 14, 2008. Utila is part of Spanish-speaking Honduras, but used to be a British colony, so the local population is an interesting mix of Honduran natives, Caribbean Caucasians, American ex-pats and descendants of black slaves. Spanish is spoken, along with a strange pidgin English with almost musical intonation and inflection. This mix gives the town its own distinct character that is dependent upon, but remains separate from its biggest industry - tourism. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Wednesday, April 9, 2008. Grande Azul and Azulita. Grande Azul (Big Blue) on the left and Jenny's Azulita (Little Blue) on the right. They always waited patiently for us whenever we were out eating or drinking. Cruising the local roads in style. Bikes are the best way to explore the island for beaches and caves, and we ran into this trio of guys looking for a beach near the airport. How could you not be having fun riding down the runway pretending that you're a plane? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

http://utila-honeymoon.blogspot.com/2008_04_10_archive.html

Thursday, April 10, 2008. The main town on the island is officially known as East Harbour, but everyone refers to it as Utila. It has a population of 2500 and very few streets. Most everything is along Main Street, which parallels the shore, with a couple of streets that head away from the waterfront. This the main intersection in town where you'll find the ferry dock, City Hall, restaurants, bars, dive shops, stores, real estate agents, churches and banks. Luckily, we never needed to shop here. We spent...

Hier zijn wij

Zaterdag 13 september 2008.

Here we are!

Land of cigars, rum, Castro but maybe even more; land of Ché Guevara! You will find a picture of him in every city, village and along every road. But aside from that Cuba is also a beautiful and interesting country. We started our trip in Varadero which is the most touristy place in Cuba. It’s filled with big resort hotels, and ours wasn’t any different. We booked an all-inclusive vacation for a week because it was basically the cheapest way to go there. Trinidad is a good place to learn salsa dancing or...
