Vanitas: The Palermo Portraits. Is a photographic series by noted Hollywood photographer Matthew Rolston, devoted to portraits of mummies from the 16th through the 20th centuries, which are found in the famous Palermo Capuchin Catacombs at the Church of Santa Maria della Pace in Palermo, Sicily. The title of the project, Vanitas. Its secondary definition in Latin is nothingness.
