King of the Spill. One chess player's journey from? Wednesday, December 27, 2006. I am beginning to wonder about these problems. Although they highlight my weak areas, some of the themes are obscure. For instance, how many opportunities do beginning/intermediate players have to use a double sacrifice? That theme is a bit of a mind-bender. Posted at 8:09 PM. Click to see this post's 1 comment(s). Thursday, April 14, 2005. Well anyway it's nice to finally have something positive to report. Also good to see our ranks swell with new members. Welcome all. I'll get around to updating my sidebar soon. Now for some real fun! Tax time. I was all ready to get it done early this year, but of course I didn't get all of the forms until a few days ago. Cheers. Posted by Dave at 7:09 AM. You are very welcome. Glad you folks can put it to good use. Fellow De la Maza Knights. Man de la Maza. King of the Spill.

An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement: Chess Lessons!
http://fussylizard.blogspot.com/2005/11/chess-lessons.html
An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Wednesday, November 09, 2005. Boy, I'm just barely squeaking by on this "one post a month" requirement to be an active knight. The big news is that I'm trying out chess lessons with NM Dan Heisman. Why did I decide to take lessons? What does all this have to do with Mr. Heisman? Anyway, I decided to give it a shot so I'll let everyone know how it goes. I play two slow g...

An Experiment in Rapid Chess Improvement. Record of my experience in undertaking Michael de la Maza's "Rapid Chess Improvement" program. Wednesday, April 19, 2006. It’s been a while since my last posting, but I’ve actually been fairly active chess-wise. I got back from my month-long business trip to Detroit two weeks ago and jumped right into my first tournament! I’m playing in the Austin Chess Club. S April Standard Swiss. The format is one game each Sunday night for four weeks. Anyway, my preliminary p...

65th Square: March 2005
http://65thsquare.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 30, 2005. Day 39: Alive and still kickin. Still here, still solving, still sucking at solving. Level 20 has not been kind. The frustrating part is that when I miss a move, I've usually examined and discarded it. Though I suppose that's good in a way. I've thought about repeating the level, but since I'm doing the modified 10 circles I'll be back to level 20 in a few weeks anyway. Posted by Dave at 11:23 AM. Monday, March 21, 2005. Day 30: Level 10 is history. I do want to try and mix in ...

65th Square: Days 53-54: 1 down 9 to go
http://65thsquare.blogspot.com/2005/04/days-53-54-1-down-9-to-go.html
Saturday, April 16, 2005. Days 53-54: 1 down 9 to go. Finished up level 30 Friday evening. Managed to get the percentage up to 60%. The last 3 days I was at about 75% once I started warming up, so I'm felling pretty good about the whole level. I want to make sure that I thank everyone for their support. As you all know it does help. Dozens of times the last few weeks I was tempted to hang this up or put my fist through the laptop screen. Thanks everyone. Posted by Dave at 11:19 PM. Man de la Maza.
