To quote a section of Our Prairie Heritage Cambria 1902-1977 written by Irene Halvorson:. Wooden sidewalks were being constructed and installed around 1926, and remained until around 1959 when concrete sidewalks started to replace their wooden counterparts. In 1934 a street work program was undertaken, as well a tree planting program for the Village Park was started. Street lights first appeared in 1946, expansion of water and sewer occurred in 1964, natural gas was brought in around 1972.

Trenton Village was founded around the turn of the 19. Century. Today it is an active and involved, modern rural community with strong High School Sports and Academics programs. (GO FALCONS! Trenton Public Library is housed in the recently renovated VFW building built in 1906. It boasts over 10,000 books including historical references for the region. The Hitchcock County Museum, in Trenton has a wonderful collection from around the county and is home of the Hitchcock County Historical Society.
