wanderblue: You are the CEO

http://wanderblue.blogspot.com/2011/04/you-are-ceo.html

Tuesday, April 26, 2011. You are the CEO. You're your own CEO. But you're not the world's micromanager. You get to pick your responses to what goes on around you, to the weather, to news from your family, to how poorly your waiter delivered upon your order. You don't HAVE to hate blustry, rainy days, after all! I like to find people who enjoy things I don't like. The kid who enjoys that blustry, rainy day is on to something! Now make the most unhappy, pissy expression you can! But when you get to control...

wanderblue: August 2010

http://wanderblue.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 26, 2010. Experiment I: practicing happiness - UPDATE. Here's a progress report. I made it through the first two days ok. Though I fell alseep both times. I'd decided to start with a 5-minute mindfulness session first, to warm up, and then go for happiness. It was fine, I suppose, but I wasn't as dedicated as I hoped. I had no routine, being in law school orientation and newly moved in, etc. I find the feeling almost overwhelming, during the meditation. So wonderful! Links to this post.

wanderblue: open to change

http://wanderblue.blogspot.com/2011/01/open-to-change.html

Friday, January 28, 2011. They don't "follow" rules here. It's rather comofrting. My new haircut, Katy's new haircut. A week ago I put about everything I own into my car and moved up to Rhode Island, from North Carolina, stopping overnight in New Jersey at the delightful home of darling friend Katy. Now I'm sitting at the kitchen table of my new home, with my new flatmate, in a new city, a new state, with a new bank, a new haircut, a new internship and experiencing a new culture. I asked, just to confirm.

wanderblue: September 2010

http://wanderblue.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 25, 2010. An earlier internet influence/happiness guru of mine, the fabulous Davey Wavey. Writes about finding beauty in every moment, every activity, every view his eyes take in. Even things like disabused garbage cans and cloudy, thirsty Sunday afternoons. (Davey also talks about loving everyone - most importantly yourself, being in the moment, and gay rights. Check him out. Or another example: a cicada decided to come to our back porch and lay to rest one last time. We provide the ...

wanderblue: March 2011

http://wanderblue.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 10, 2011. I like listening to music. So many people list as a hobby "listening to music". Me too! But how often do we really do it? I mean, yeah, there's music on in the background almost wherever I go, even at the law office. It's nice most of the time, and I find it pleasant. But I wouldn't say that this qualifies as "listening to music". When is the last time you found yourself doing just that, and nothing else? Just sitting down or laying back, listening to music? Last night I decided...

Aphorism and Egoism: Practicing Self Approval

http://essey.blogspot.com/2011/01/practicing-self-approval.html

Happiness, Optimism, Mindfulness, and Authentic Living. Monday, January 17, 2011. Wanting approval is the biggest check you will ever write." - Lawrence Crane. As a child, my father once told me to stop caring what other people think of me. He told me that as I grow up, and become more confident in myself, I won't care how others feel about me. The message is that if I don't care what others think of me, they'll stop judging me and have less control over my feelings. One of the Four Agreements. Not takin...

wanderblue - other output

http://wanderblue.com/other-output

A comic, updates sporadically. I have a variety of other dabblings, such as the one video I’ve ever made (which actually won Honorable Mention in a contest! And some piano recordings. If you want to use them somewhere, just ask! I’ll most likely be delighted and try to help promote whatever the heck you use them for. I run a blog also called wanderblue. Pretty uncreative of me, name-wise! It’s here that I explain my personal, Buddhist-based philosophy, which underpins many of my comics. Back to Top ↑.

Engage Fully | Feed The Spark

https://feedthespark.wordpress.com/2011/06/03/engage-fully

What is Feed the Spark? Believe in nothing, no matter who says it, even if I say it, if it does not agree with your own experience and your own common sense Buddha. See the first post in this series here. I have a tendency to be outside myself. While I am being, enjoying, doing, there is generally some other part of me that is simply observing. I am working on that. It seems so simple. I am an enthusiastic person, engaged in pushing my boundaries. But. 8220;So, what went wrong? There’s no disputing...

Gringa in a Chilean World. The Power of Simplicity. I can understand why Pablo Neruda fell in love with Valparaíso. Friday, April 13, 2012. Getting out of a funk. To get out of a funk (supposing you admit to yourself you want. To get out of it), try seeking out beauty. Of course, everything depends on how we define our terms here. In this context "beauty" and "beautiful" refer not merely to things that are immediately pleasing to the eye, though those things might still count. If you can find something beautiful to experience, it will deal a huge blow to your funk! The trick, though, is that there is beauty to be foun...

wanderblue - a comic, updates sporadically

A comic, updates sporadically. On June 18th, 2011. I’m studying for the Wisconsin bar full time now (about 60 hours/week). Exam at the end of July. So, not a lot of wanderblue action. However, to retain my sanity I have started a tumblr. Where you can find stuff like the above. On November 27th, 2010. I drew Eliza, a friend from Melbourne Law School. Click for full size. Happy 60th, mom! On June 3rd, 2010. I drew my mom for her 60th (today! She is infinitely more beautiful than this. Click for full size).
