Alright, alright. We know. It's been a minute since we've done any blogging here. As we mentioned last, we've kinda. Read More. So That Happened…. When we left for this trip, the only plan that we had was to have no plan at all. We. Read More. And sometimes you wander really slow…. We have been on Koh Lipe now for six weeks, and just did a border run. So we can stay here for another two. We are so charmed by this island and it’s people that we truly don’t want to leave. Ever.

August 22, 2011 by jess c Buying stuff. Elephant Books and Coffee. Alright, alright. We know. It’s been a minute since we’ve done any blogging here. As we mentioned last, we’ve kinda gone plum-crazy. And moved to Thailand to live on a tiny island in the boonies, open a cafe/bookstore/bistro/bakery/internet shop. So, we’ve been a bit busy. But, we just couldn’t leave our brief moment of internet-having without sharing the picture below, which we took today at the Hat Yai. Bull; So That Happened…. I am gon...

So That Happened…. May 27, 2011 by jess m Elephant Books and Coffee. When we left for this trip, the only plan that we had was to have no plan at all. We wanted to be open to anything that came our way, and were excited to be able to let go of everything and just see what happened next. It’s entirely possible that we may have taken that why not spirit a bit too far. As we’ve said before. It was an explosion of pure genius. Elephant Books & Coffee was born. Bull; So That Happened…. Run for the Border | Wandering Slow

http://wanderingslow.com/run-for-the-border

Run for the Border. April 2, 2011 by jess c Koh Lipe. If you do much backpacking in Southeast Asia, you’ll often hear–sometimes in hushed tones–people talk about making border runs. No, it’s not a reference to a certain Mexican fast-food advertising campaign (though, Jess M wouldn’t let me call this post “Make a Run for the Border”). Rather, we’re talking about taking a trip to renew one’s tourist visa. New 15 day visa. Look back and stare at the border, marveling at the lack of ceremony or intrigue or a...

Lost & Found in Zurich: Reminiscing

http://lostandfoundinzurich.blogspot.com/2012/08/reminiscing.html

Lost and Found in Zurich. Thursday, August 16, 2012. The end of April, Cousin Heather Brenneman and her friend Marguerite came to visit. I hadn't seen Heather in 35 years. Easy enough to remember as the last time we were together was my wedding day! When we were young, there was never enough time for Heather (a year older than me) and her sister Nancy (my age) to visit. I lived in the small village of Embro. They lived a 2 1/2 hour drive away in Barrie,. Heather, me, Nancy. Wow! Check out the lace! I hav...

Lost and Found in Zurich. Sunday, July 24, 2011. Rule Brittania, Brittania Rule the Waves. 14 - 17 July 2011. We met Katie and Heath in London for a four day weekend. When I asked Katie why London, she told me about a great deal Delta had. If you ever need anybody to get you the best airline fares ever, call Katie. The excuse (as if we needed one) for getting together was to celebrate the joint birthdays: Katie 27 on July 11th and Greg 64 on July 1st. Check Tower of London? Only photos from a distance - ...

Lost and Found in Zurich. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. N many households, you hear the phrase "God willing". In Katie and Heath's house, the phrase is "Noah willing". Truth be told, our wonderful grandson is a bit of a tyrant. He thinks the whole household exists to satisfy his every need and if his needs are not being met to his satisfaction, he lets you know it. He gets that from his father's side, of course. There's nothing stubborn about Greg or Katie or me. Did you people not get it? Greg flew back t...

Lost and Found in Zurich. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Love at a Distance. In February, Katie went back to work parttime and left Noah with a nanny. The nanny was nice enough but lacked experience and the kids were having second thoughts. So, they asked me to come visit earlier than planned so I could be an interim nanny. It's not every day a mother/mother-in-law is actually asked to come for an extended period and I of course hopped onto the first available plane. I was fortunate enough to be there for his ...

Lost and Found in Zurich. Sunday, May 13, 2012. Spring magic, Swiss Style. Friday 11 May 2012. Last Saturday, our weekly trip to the Oerlikon Market was accompanied by rain - a fair bit of rain . Which explains why I was dresssed like this. Fashion shmashion, I was dry! Although not yet at their prime, the blossoms were glorious. Even the leaves were lovely! The reflections of sky and trees in the water were Monet inspired. But, as always, it was the company that made the day. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

http://lostandfoundinzurich.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Lost and Found in Zurich. Monday, April 18, 2011. Last week I went on another lovely excursion with the American Women's Club. This time it was on the train to Appenzell, a Heidi-like small town near the German Border. The trip was a gourmet delight! We had a wonderful guide who loaded us up with food and facts. Our first stop was in the middle of the road - literally! A local artist put in a round turntable right smack in the middle of the road. His rationale? The area is famous for its. Some of the bui...

Lost and Found in Zurich. Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Easter Weekend 21 - 25 April, 2011. I just discovered that if you want to better see the pictures in my blog, just click on them and they magically grow into something even middle aged eyes can see! The wonders of technology! However, we continue to talk and flip flop and check out possible expat heavens. Our first foray into retirement locales was the region of Piemonte (Piedmont) Italy. We rented a car and headed south. Lost and Found in Zurich. Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Last weekend, Greg and I went back to the scene of the crime. Where we met 36 years ago. You can't go home again, wrote Thomas Wolfe. Apparently, you can't go back to Munich, either. At least not the Munich of our memories. So, for those of you who haven't heard the story of how Greg and I met, here it is. I've written it in blue so those of you who have heard the story can just skip this part. When Greg saw me "There she is! It slowly pierced my drunke...

http://lostandfoundinzurich.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Lost and Found in Zurich. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Thirty-five years ago today, I married my best friend. In the wall, a friendly family of field mice had their home. The grainery stood empty and since winter was not far off, the little family of mice began to gather corn and wheat and straw. They worked all day and night. All except Frederick. It's funny. In the two years we have lived here, I don't ever remember feeling homesick. Not even once. But now that we're leaving, I do feel homesick. We manage...

wanderingslugs | Slugs take over the world!

Slugs take over the world! 8216;The slugs’. November 10, 2012. We crossed from Botswana into Zimbabwe through the border at Victoria Falls. Having had quite a bit of experience with borders in Zimbabwe I was expecting this to be a very painful process. Happily however I was wrong and we were whisked through with a minimum of formalities – the only painful part was having to stump up the 55 USD for a single entry visa. Once safely past we carried on up the road – only to be brought up short by the c...

Pondering thoughts of a wandering smurf. October 14, 2012. 4 weekends ago, JL and I embarked on a day trip to Bowen Island (an island municipality in Metro Vancouver that is a 20 minute ferry ride from North Vancouver’s Horseshoe Bay terminal), our first ever trip there. The ferry journey there was memorable, with low hanging clouds formed a backdrop that created a wonderfully mystical atmosphere. On the ferry to Bowen Island. View from Bowen Island’s Snug Cove pier.
