Wandering Wilkerson

Friday, July 13, 2012. AN OLD FASHIONED FOURTH OF JULY. I am going to take you to an often overlooked section of Yosemite National Park, the Pioneer History Center in Wawona. Why Wawona you ask? The covered bridge over the river is the only one in any of the national parks. It was built in 1857 by Galen Clark who opened the first stop for visitors in Wawona. Later, it was bought and covered by the Washburns. In the late 1800's Wawona was the largest stage stop in Yosemite with all traffic hav...Once mann...

Wandering Wilkerson: May 2009

http://wanderingwilkerson.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 30, 2009. Carpinteria, April 2009. Wilkerson, the Wanderer. Carpinteria, April 2009. Carolyn and I decided to take a mini vacation so we drove up the California Coast to Carpinteria, a classic little beach town about 20 miles above Ventura and twelve miles below Santa Barbara with a population of 15,000 people. Why there? It represented a trip down memory lane for me having spent many childhood vacations camping at Carpinteria State Beach Park with family and friends. Later Carolyn found a ...

Sunday, August 29, 2010. RAMBLING TO THE RAMONA PAGEANT. May 1, 2010. Personally, I thought the amphitheater unique as people appeared on the hillside seemingly out of nowhere. Even though it was outside the voices projected throughout the seating area clearly. Multi-generational dancing and singing seemed authentic . Held in April and May it can get very warm out there, but we had perfect temps. The three acts run over 3 hours so be prepared with water and a hat. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Wandering Wilkerson: March 2011

Tuesday, March 15, 2011. On the Road Again. Wildflower time in the Anza. Desert. When do they bloom? That's the big question. When the winter rains and temperatures are just right-how unpredictable is that you say? There are wildflowers year round in the desert but February and March are usually the right time. Each month has its own blooms. April is the best time for the Palo. Verde trees with its yellow blossoms and in June. State Park for years. Borrego. Since I had seen the Salton Sea,remembering it ...

Saturday, November 26, 2011. TASTING IN TEMECULA - A CELEBRATION OF LIFE. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE. Groupon posted a 3 hour jeep charter for 6 passengers on line via Sunrider Tours, http:/ www.sunridertours/. Kelly, Rita, Roz, Judi, Gena and I signed up. Included was free tastings at Leoness Cellars, a guide, and the jeep. Every bargain hunting I looked for 2 for 1 coupons on line for two other wineries (easier if your tour is not on Sunday). Leoness,( http:/ www.leonessecellars.com/. As the day ended at tw...

Sunday, March 21, 2010. KOWABUNGA KAUAI- FEBRUARY 2010. A KRASH KOURSE IN KAUAI - PART I. To give credit where credit is due Kay and I had some help discovering places on this island from a book left in our Pono Kai condo, Lenore W. Horowitz's, The Kauai Underground Guide. Let me tell you (do you have a minute? My friends know me and they say it will be more like an hour, so read on). First, there are no structures taller than a swaying palm tree ON PURPOSE! Kauai is water world for sure. What does t...

wanderingwilderness | questions of faith, creation, and life

Questions of faith, creation, and life. Why World Vision Hurt So Bad. The pain was unexplainable. I still remember where I was sitting and the thoughts that went through my head. George Wood made the preliminary announcement that parishioners should withdraw their support. At least that was the first person I noticed. Maybe because that’s the most recent formal denomination that I’ve been a part of. What does that look like? To be completely transparent, I don’t know what all that means right now. I know...

For the lovers, dreamers and adventurers of the world. A blog dedicated to the lovers, dreamers and adventurers of the world. Initially, I created this blog as a means for family and friends who didn’t have Facebook to stay in touch. However, since then it has transformed into something more. My goal for this site was not only to document our physical journey but also, the emotional aspects of creating a life abroad; the happiness and hardships, the challenges and growths. September 2, 2016. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st, 2016. There hasn’t been anything interesting about today, really. I spent the last few days working on a translation project, so I spent today catching up on the rest of my life. My big accomplishment was sweeping and hosing down the porch and driveway. We have chickens and chickens are not potty-trained. So that was fun. Our pony, Ayla, is also pregnant. She should foal at the end of September or early October. A red stallion smelled her from far away ...The m...
