Penetron.

Penetron is a repair. However there are instances where it is a planned repair immediately after constructing a basement structure. Penetron penetrates cracks and capillary pores where, if water is present, crystals form. Cement to you and me. Though, presumably, they include something useful to help get the cement in a relatively long way. It is very much against our ethos to build a basement with a spongy concrete and not to try to waterproof with the construction material. How to waterproof it?

Xypex.

Xypex contains a bit more cement which improves the concrete slightly, but it would be cheaper to ask for more cement in the readymix concrete. Its speciality is it retards the initial set of the concrete substantially. As practitioners ourselves we fail to see the benefit. The Xypex BBA Certificate. OPC is a reactive crystalline admixture. Contains PC, which may not be OPC, presumably. More cement without more water would always be expected to increase strength, water tightness and durability of concrete.

Caltite Cementaid.

Caltite appears to be a bitumastic emulsion. There is no doubt that where it bakes dry it protects concrete and the steel within for decades, possibly for centuries. Our concerns are they promote the benefits of dried Caltite in situations they know it will not dry or work, and a guarantee as the best in the market when it may be completely bogus. Tapes, strips and bars in joints do nothing in properly formed joints. Neither can they perform a miracle if the workforce chucks them or the concrete in any old how. A good tape or strip will only overcome slightly poor workmanship - the odd mistake. As a precaution they have their place. Without supervision joints leak. The best of a bad bunch, in my opinion is this product: Fradiflex metal water stop from Max Frank. Kept clean for most of the time and still cleanable after that. How to waterproof it?
