Patients who have trouble swallowing and an impaired coughing mechanism (dysphagia) are at risk for food and liquids getting into their lungs, which can result in pneumonia. Because of this, patients with dysphagia are often prescribed special diets. Pureed food is pretty obvious, but how about thick water? The consistency of fruit syrup or V8. A walk with pictures.

A couple weeks ago I was walking home deep into the early morning hours when I was brought up short by this memorial. The bicyclist who was injured in the multi-firetruck crash I wrote about here. Died twelve days later. I find specific, handmade public memorials like this beautiful and moving. Though they are often not as cleanly designed as the Oklahoma City National Memorial. Great show from a reformed Pavement tonight in front of a sold-out crowd. So nice to see lots of people smiling and mouthing along with the words. Or shouting, cause you kinda have to yell "40 million daggers! Wonderful to see so many other friends as well. Gorgeous, painterly photographs from the upcoming exhibit Heinrich Kühn: The Perfect Photograph. Running 3/6/11 through 5/30/11 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Worked 13 hours directing lines and dealing with minor problems at Registration while trying not to talk too much because of the canker sore on my tongue. So, super-awesome. Periodic "shots" of liquid benzocaine made it bearable and the day went well, no down-time on the computer network, no loud customer meltdowns (at least that I saw). Oh well, it'll screen again this week.
